Flags of the World #16: Belarus!
Hello fellow Steemians and welcome to my review of the Belarusian flag! This is the 16th flag that I will be covering in my series to cover most of the flags of the world! Belarus is the last Eastern European country under a dictatorship since the fall of the iron curtain.
Today's Flag is the Flag of Belarus!

The flag of Belarus is a horizontal dual band consisting of a top red stripe and a bottom green stripe, with a white and red ornament placed at the left of the flag. The current Belarusian flag was adopted on February 10th, 2012 but this is a slight modification of the same flag that was originally adopted on June 7, 1995! (The original flag will be on the other flags section!)
The design of this flag was chosen after the country held a referendum to select a new flag after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Meanings
The red represents the standard colors of the Belarusian war regiments that defeated the Teutonic Knights and also represents the country's past and the blood spilled by its defenders.
The green represents all of the lands and forest of Belarus, spring and hope for the future.
The decorative pattern at the left side of the flag represents Belarusian's unity and spirituality. The pattern is supposed to represent the flora found in the country.

Other Flags!
This is the flag that was selected in the referendum in 1995 to represent the country, if you look at the left, you will notice the slight change that was made to the pattern in 2012.
This is the presidential standard of Belarus, featuring the flag of the country is a more squared shape and with the Belarusian national emblem in the middle.
Belarusian Presidential Standard
This flag is a little different, it is know as the white, red and white and it was used originally by the government after the country was created after the German Empire and the Soviet Union signed the treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The flag was used in 1918 and was used again between the period of independence from the Soviets in 1991 and the referendum for the new flag in 1995. This flag is used a lot by the opposition parties in the country to show their disagreement with the current government.
Facts
Alexander Lukashenko has been the president of the country since it was created in 1994. He has been the only president of Belarus so far.
The name Belarus means White Russia!
Minsk, Belarus capital has been rebuilt more than 15 times over the years, since the city is in the middle between Russia and the rest of Europe, most of the armies that went to war with Russia had to go through Minsk, it was destroyed in the Napoleonic Wars, World War I, World War II and many other wars. The city has been given the title of "Hero City" because it always comes back after being destroyed.

Belarus is located on Eastern Europe.
