The winds of Egypt, the sand of people, a short story of fiction

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

The sand was getting through every crack, there was another sandstorm raging in the night. She would have thought it to be the Gods wrath, but she knew far too well, that the last God had left. Amun-Ra had taken the last ship with the minds of the brightest. The world was going to dust, Egypt was going to fade into memories. She knew the future as it would be, as she had seen it unfold before.

Sure, it would take years for the glory to fade, but the day would come when Egypt falls. She looked at the sand under her feet, it was brought in by the winds of the cold desert night. The air was heavy, only sounds were coming from the wind, it was almost peaceful if it wasn't for them. The pharaoh, the generals, the useless thinkers and guards. They were all talking senselessly while she stood silently, watching in the night.

It came to this as it comes to most civilizations, when people get greedy and arrogant, the good parts fade and leave altogether. They called Amun-Ra and his people gods, but in the last years they seemed to have forgotten that they brought the knowledge. Gods didn't need worship, she knew far too well, they were just looking for the clearest hearts. For the visionaries, the dreamers, the people who cared.

Egypt had been in wars a long time ago, in past forgotten, their gods had brought fear onto enemy troops, there was supposed to be peace in the nation and neighbors to this day, but the power brought greed and the Pharaoh wanted lands, he was keen on blood to be spilled. The gods were not happy, they were of harmony, they were of another planet of different civilizations. It wasn't their way and they let it be known.

There is nothing more dangerous than biting the hand that feeds you, but that is exactly what Egypt did, all that they knew was learned from them, the people they called gods so others would fear. She knew what would happen as she had seen it before, but she didn't say a word as she had been told to just watch. They had to make their own choices, they had to choose their own path, the ones who chose right could leave with the gods.

A daughter of a god and a man, she knew her life would outrun the others. She could have left with half of her blood, but she knew far too well, her home was here. Another blow of wind, another pile of sand, the Pharaoh requiring her attention. She looked at the man, in his glorious chains, the long toga and dark eyes. There was no doubt in her mind that the Pharaoh was blind in his soul.

-- Priestess, would you agree? We should pray until they come back, we will give you more men and more temples, we will show them that they are welcome, we will forgive them for abandoning their men in the midst of war!- a war that he had called for himself, she noted to herself.

-- Don't be foolish, they have left, there, in the stars you can see, a new colony has been started. ***They took all that we have in technology and smart men****, no person here will know how to build what we had. It is too late, we took too much, no gold or jewels will bring them back.- she gestured towards a planet out in the sky, the one that was shining through the storm, brighter than ever, stronger than ever.

-- I don't care, I am the Pharaoh, I will make them listen to what I have to say, we will build a nation stronger than theirs and one day we will take the world.- she knew she shouldn't have laughed, but she did, the Pharaoh looked in her eyes with a spark, with maddens distinctive to leaders of failing nations.

-- My Pharaoh, you should have learned from your mistakes the first time I said, but as I see now, there is no sense in you now, Egypt will fall, and your bloodline with it, not today or tomorrow, but years to come. You have become, what we were taught not to be, you have eradicated the light that once was. They left because we are not ready, and they will come back in thousands of years, but you will never see, you will be long gone in the world of afterlife.

She knew she needed no sword, to get out of the room, the Pharaoh had feelings towards her beauty, the others were fearing her strength.

-- You will die in the storm if you leave now, the sand will bury your body and the memory will be gone of your steps.- she knew he believed what he said, he didn't truly understand of her roots. Ignorance is a bliss, and so the Pharaoh never saw her again, living his life, trying to build a future based on the past, on top of bodies of innocent men.

The years came and went, the wars won and lost, the gods never returned, and Egypt never recovered. Other gods came, other gods went, but people didn't change, the memories were lost. Legends and drawings, all that was left, lost technology, lost education.

There was standing a woman of a great age, in front of pyramids of today. She laughed softly about the grandeur, as she knew far too well what the structures were meant to symbolize. The gods had left in their ships long ago, but she remembered to this day, the ships were of the same triangular form as the pyramids of Earth, Pharaoh after Pharaoh had hoped to be carried away in the unknown, but it was just sand, holding them together and taking them apart, not even close to the flying ships.

As she had seen before, she saw again, how people wasted the resources for ambitions. Afterlife, they called it. History books told stories, but she had been there and knew the world. She had lived thousands of years, but the time had come, for her to move on to her own afterlife. The last glance of an empire she once had seen built. Now just a memory in the wind.

If you would have seen the face of this woman, years before today, you would recognize a Sphinx in features of her youth, now taken by the age, the faith of all.

I have always been obsessed with Egypt and its mysteries, so I like to come up with my own stories sometimes, a little imagination brings me to all kinds of stories, magic, gods, aliens in this case. Hope you enjoyed!

Which lines are you referring to?

in religious context. like Gods (Wrong for us. it always singular to us) . Like ( son of god, wrong for us. ) :D So I think it is just off topic we want to discuss :P . Last God :O . but in fiction, all is possible ! . :D

Haha, yeah, I didn't really mean to drag religion in this :D It is for the sake of the story.

Nice story. I like your post. up vote and follow.

Thank you :)
