ONE SATURDAY NIGHT

He stared down the display LCD screen of his Nikon D850, sifting through the images that now greeted him, a smile drew across his face. He threw on his pants, grabbed the available shirt on his couch and headed for the basement. It was a cold morning in Seattle.

When Sean was not playing photographer, he actually had a nine to five job at JAD INDUSTRIES, where he manages their sales team. He had been promoted twice since he started work there 6 months ago. As good looking and hunky as he was, celibacy was his muse, his choice to stay single was a fate he felt the universe had dealt him unfairly, till he at least, met his QUEEN (whoever or whatever she is). He tried fostering relationships with the ladies at work and a few on the block where he stays, all proved futile.

His life was quite triangular, work, home then the gym. The only people in his life besides his estranged family, fell under two categories; work friends and his gym buddies, and they sure knew their boundaries.

JAD INDUSTIRES availed their staffs with ranks as high as Sean’s, a day off every week. They called it ME-TIME BONUS., excluding the weekends of course. That day off was very well utilized by Sean.

”Hey Bruce! It was really nice having you on set tonight.” Kara said with a smile.
”Anytime hun, the pleasure was mine, well… excluding the part where you called me a greedy entrepreneur.”
”I am so sorry man, anything for my listener’s pleasure. But hey! You sure got a lot of hits on your site today, courtesy my sassy mouth” retorted Kara
”Fine, you win ma’am” (he exits the studio)

Kara stops the music her listeners were enjoying, says her final goodbye for the day, resumes the music and exits the studio allowing Mike to come in and run the night shift. VIBES FM was one of the best radio stations with a wide range of listeners around the metropolis and it’s staff were properly taken care off, let alone their star girl Kara Danvers.

09:45pm, Kara briskly walked down the hallway from the studio, stopped shortly at the cafeteria to pick up her cold lunch and dashed for the car park, four floors down; even the elevator seemed to be strolling or maybe it was just her mind. Now inside her BMW convertible, she backed out the driveway and almost knocked the studio gate down.

Old George didn’t understand why his dinner was cold today, and Kara wasn’t in the mood to apologize. Usually she would microwave the food at the office after work hours and take it to George; who took refuge at a spot very close to her house. He was a homeless man who chose the streets, instead of an abandoned camp for men his age. George loathed the government for making a mockery of veterans like him, and Kara had to hear him relieve his experience in the 80’s whenever she brought him dinner. Tonight was different though, she had to be home at exactly 10:30pm.
On getting home, she dashed into the bathroom, not minding her quest to maximize time.

”The Baker’s Guide” started at exactly 10:30pm and Kara was already snuggled up in her bed with a bowl of chips and strawberry juice on the stand close to the bed.
THE NIGHT WAS OVER

                INTERMISSION

Kara was selected to represent VIBES FM at the red carpet event hosted by Coca-cola in her town that weekend. It was not an unexpected nomination seeing as she is the stations poster girl. This time around, the event was to happen in Bellevue, and she had an unsettling feeling about it. She eventually packed up and got her unsettled self into the stations private jet and headed for Bellevue.
Saturday evening, the event was green, Kara took her time to get all dressed up.

“HECK !!! Joey Adams was going to be there…” she thought
She had crushed on the six time Grammy award winner for the better part of her teenage years.
The evening started with a performance by THE ROCKETS a rock band from West Indies, and progressed up until Joey killed her boredom with his husky voice. She practically had to remind herself of her primary purpose for being at the event.
She got up from where she sat and began doing her interviews. No one could refuse her, they actually gave more than she requested and always consented to her quoting them on radio.
Was it her voice?
Was it the dress?
Or pure charisma?
They all seemed to dance to her tunes.

Suddenly, Kara felt different, like someone was watching her. She looked round and noticed a few manly eyes gawking at her, that was normal, she was the definition of sexy. Pictures of her dress would definitely grace the front cover of the editorial after tonight because the paparazzi were having a field day with her.

The event had now come to a close. Kara got her dream hug and an additional kiss on her cheeks, in his own words Joey said ”Leave the radio and come work with me…”. Kara was the happiest person on the planet, she wasn’t planning to quit her job, but the satisfaction she experienced, knowing that her longtime crush fancied her, took her breath away.
”Ma’am can I take a picture?” said one handsomely looking paparazzi or so she thought. Standing outside the hall entrance she stood for one last pose.
Monday morning, Kara was MIA ; Mike had to cover for her, even after he did the night shift, as requested by Mr. Smith; VIBES FM director. Tuesday and Wednesday were the same, now the radio station filed a missing persons report.

THE NIGHT OF THE EVENT

Sean had just finished an interview at their sister firm and was on his way back to Seattle. He was driving past PEACE ARENA, the biggest event center in Bellevue when he noticed something that made his blood curl. Fate had smiled on him finally. He found a place to park his Ford truck, reached for his camera which he always kept handy and decided to attend the event. Thank goodness he still had his suit on.
While taking pictures of Kara, he overheard her saying telling someone how she missed her bed and would travel back home the following day.
He had to act fast else fate will drag this opportunity past him.

She had been locked up for 4 days, tied to an old wooden chair that wouldn’t budge no matter how hard she tried. All she remembers, was the fact that she stood outside for a pose after which she woke up tied to this chair. Sean carried her unconscious body to his car and drove all the way back to Seattle, he then he hid her in his basement. Every morning he comes downstairs wearing a face cap to feed her before leaving for work. He avoids going down to meet her at nights not being sure if he could control his emotions.

Sean excitedly walked down his basement excited to spend the day with Kara. He gets to the spot where she sits and says a casual ”hello”, the first time he was talking to her in days; he then proceeds to untie her. She looked up to see him smiling; something about his demeanor calmed her down. Kara stilled herself from screaming or running towards the door. Her captor drew a chair and sat across from her and started off with an apology, then went on explaining how fate had sidelined his love life till that very day when he first saw her walk into Peace Plaza.

”I am sorry, I panicked.” he started off
”I overheard you saying you would be leaving the following day, and I thought I needed to act fast.”
”Now that you have taken away my freedom, what next?” Kara asked taking advantage of Sean’s apologetic state.
Standing up, Sean moved his chair aside looked Kara in her eyes and spoke so softly…
”I just wanted to talk to you and now I have”
”I believe I will grow to love you, but I will not force it down your throat’
”Forgive my extremities ma’am”
”You are free to go; I’ll drive you to the airport myself so that you do not miss your flight scheduled for 02:00pm today.” …he smiles ”I booked it, last night”

Kara still couldn’t believe what was happening or what she was hearing.

For some reason she trusted this strange man, followed him upstairs and then out the back to his car, their journey to the airport, was as silent as the night.

At the airport, Sean watched Kara gracefully alight from the passenger seat and before she disappeared into the crowd, he called out to her by her name; which he read off her card back at his place, and said …

"The name’s SEAN''

Kara smiled and disappeared into the crowd.
