How I Spent My Day

in #writing6 years ago

Spent my day at the Adenta Police Station today. I wasn't in any trouble, if you had to know. Just went to give moral support to a friend of mine. We had been told to report at 11 am, we got there well before 11:00 GMT. Lemme just say this, don't know if I should call this customer service, but whatever it is, it's really terrible. Imagine going to a place at 11, and getting attended to at 12:30 pm. Well, lemme share with you why I went there.

Here's the story;

My friend owns a money transfer system and he's got a guy managing it for him. On Saturday the 26th of January 2019, a guy comes to do a transaction of about $10. He then tells the guy managing the money transfer system that someone in a nearby hotel wants to do a transaction of $200 so he should go for the money at the hotel. He then packs up to go to the hotel, and this customer tells him that since they are going to trust him with $200 whiles they know nothing about him, he should leave his bag and the phone he uses for them and he will get it when he comes back. He got there, met nobody, came back and the people were gone

This is stupid. I'm sure that's what you said after reading it, and that's exactly what the Chief Commander at the station also said. In total, the people made away with about $803 dollars worth of virtual and fiat money. The family of the guy were saying my friend should pay half of it, since it's an "accident" and the guy managing was also a victim. The police however said once the guy left his place of work to an unauthorised location, the owner has no blame. He's now been told to pay all, or face the law.

After the police had said he had to pay whiles they make plans to capture the fraudsters, the family now became friendlier with my friend. They now requested that he waves some off so they could pay, whiles they initially demanded he pays half. They are now calm. How interesting. So investigation had began to track down the fraudsters but until then, the guy who was managing the business takes all the blame. The police even suggested that the guy could just have taken the money himself or with some friends and then come up with this wonderful story so as to get away with it.

At the moment, my friend is totally out of business as his phone and capital have all been taken away. He's also spending lot's of his time at the police station as we left there after 3:00 pm today. That's 5 hours that could have easily been used for something profitable. Anyways, they've been asked to come back to the police station to formalise the payment plan. P.S. we don't really have a good national database in Ghana so tracking criminals it's a bit difficult in this part of the world. We wait to see what happens on Friday.
