Starting On Something New

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

It's never too late to start something new.

The older that you get, sometimes it feels like the faster time passes you by. And for those who feel that a generous amount of time has passed already, that can easily fuel discouragement when it comes to starting on new goals.

There are many who might feel like they shouldn't bother with working toward a new dream for their life because the time has passed already for them to get started. And in some cases that's true, ex) for accolades that have age restrictions or other, but for many things that we might want to experience in life it might not be too late; despite us already having convinced ourselves that it is.

Sure, a lot of time may have passed by already, but we shouldn't allow the fear of time to stop us from branching out or from believing that we might be able to accomplish something new.

that time is going to pass anyways...

So should the fear of how much time it will take to achieve the goal, prevent us from getting started in the first place?

Goals are important to have because they help us to funnel our energy toward something; hoping that our efforts will reap some reward later on. They help us to gain a sense of improvement and self-growth. And they can offer us a feeling that we have something to live for and something to be excited about working toward. Whether it's starting a new business, or learning a new skill etc, the fear of time shouldn't prevent us from trying.

Some Examples...

  • Gordon Moore was 39 years old before he started Intel
  • William Fargo didn't start on his Wells Fargo & Company until he was 34 years old.
  • Robin Chase didn't cofound Zipcar until she was 42
  • Sam Walton hadn't founded Wal-Mart until he was 44
  • Momofuku Ando didn't get around to inventing instant ramen until he was 48
  • Julia Child didn't write her first cook book until the age of 50
  • Mary Wesley didn't write her first book until 50+ and she went on to sell millions
  • the KFC king himself, Harland Sanders, didn't start promoting his empire until he was well over 60 years of age.
  • Charles Flint was 61 when he started what eventually became known as IBM today
  • Stan Lee hadn't created his first trending comic until 39 years old

There are many examples of people who didn't see their dreams realized until much later on in their lives. We're never too old to hope to accomplish something new in our lives.

If we are too afraid to branch out and try to accomplish a new goal for our life, it might some day fuel some bitterness and resentment for us. And surely we are eventually going to get bored if we fall into a pattern of doing the same thing every day for many years.

Switching it up by trying to accomplish or experience something different and new in our lives, can help to reignite our passion for life; boosting our standard of living and overall enjoyment.

We might take the chance on something new and fail, but we can always choose to try again. Or we can take it as a learning experience and grow from it. We will never know if we could have achieved our goals, unless we first take the chance to try.

@paps

Excellent. Make sure you do things that will probably fail.

I never feel old cause of my crazy friends who are older than me and they're still partying and living it up (responsibly.)

If anything, you might as well make the choice to try something new before it's forced upon you, like for example, an expected divorce and you're forced to find love again. I have seen many people marry someone they don't love or or work a job they hate till they get "restarted" on their own.

Keep on keeping on your own way I say.
