Chapter 1

1.1. The beginning

James woke up groggy. It was 10. a.m. and the summer heat in Pheonix, Arizona was in full force.

He had been drinking heavily for the past few days trying to drown his sorrow. He was going through really tough times. He had been unemployed for 2 years living with his parents who have recently passed away. He had no girlfriend no wife, no siblings, a few aquintances but no real friends. His life was going nowhere. He was seriously contemplating suicide.

As he was browsing through the morning newspaper with a bottle of scotch in his hand a hiring ad caught his eye.

Government hiring - Clinical trials, experimental testing: high risk/high reward job.

Feeling helpless and hopeless, on the verge of suicide he had nothing to lose. If this job ends up killing him it'll rid him of his misery and if he should survive he'd finally get some much needed financial break. He decided to take a chance.

He finished the bottle of scotch and spent the rest of the day getting over the hangover.

1.2. Job interview

The job interview was being conducted in an office building 20 minutes away from his house.

He entered the room on the first floor where the job interview was taking place.

The man sitting behind the desk was in his late fifties, balding, wearing glasses. He had a mysterious vibe about him.

"State your full name," he started without introducing himself or any greeting.

"James Parker."

"Living relatives?"

"None."

"Any known medical condition?"

"None."

He had him do a quick doctor's checkup nonetheless.

When he was done the man continued:

"Any questions Mr. Parker?"

"What kind of experiments are we talkin about here?"

"It's a secret"

"I see."

"What about the location? Can you tell me anything about that?"

"Secret. In fact you're going to have to swallow a pill which will put you to sleep so we can transport you to the secret location."

"Are you being serious…. How can I trust you?"

"Well it's up to you to decide. All I can tell you is it's a life changing experience."

"Life changing experinece? What is he talking about? There's more to this than just some clinical trials," he thought to himself.

"You have 15 minutes to decide and then the offer is off the table."

James thought about it for full 15 minutes but in the end he took the sleeping pill and started losing consciousness in a matter of seconds.

1.3. Waking up in Area 51

James woke up 12 hours later in a room with no windows.

"Where the hell am I? Where have they taken me?" he wondered.

It felt to him like he was somewhere underground. The door was locked and he couldn't get out. He was pacing up and down, calling for help, calling for somebody to explain to him what the hell was going on. There was no reaction.

Half an hour later the door opened. It was a young man in his thirties dressed in all white clothes.

"Who are you?" James asked him.

"You're roommate. My name is Peter."

"My roomate? Where the hell are we?"

"We're deep underground in what the outside world knows as AREA 51."
