@Qurator and @Steemcommunity...2 new awesome Witnesses!
Hey everyone,
Voting for your witnesses is such an important responsibility as a steemian, but I've found that many seem to put this on the back burner and never really get to it. Witnesses are here to help prevent abuse, and should be voted for because they are solid members of this community who are trusted to do the right thing for everyone, all the while contributing to Steemit in many positive ways. There are other technical qualifications, but those of you who know me, also know that the technical stuff is like Greek to me, so you'll have to get those details elsewhere:)
The bottom line is that your witnesses have the best interests of this platform at heart, well before their own best interests, and you trust them to do what's right for all of us. If you do your own research and pick your 30 witnesses, then I'm sending a big high five your way. If you haven't done the research, please do. If you have no intention of doing the research, you can choose someone that you do trust and make them your "proxy", which just means they'll pick them for you:) You can check out the list of witnesses here and get started!
Not long ago @qurator jumped into the witness ring with this announcement, and became one of my favourites! @qurator works tirelessly and selflessly to find and upvote quality posts that perhaps may be going unnoticed. When I say quality, I mean quality ! They curate excellence and showcase those in various posts; in doing so, they encourage those of us reading to strive to a higher leveI; in effect helping us strive and achieve our own definition of excellence. With @qurator, there is no room for mediocrity, and the posts that they curate are proof of that. I have learned so much from interacting with others in @qurator, especially what it means to create quality posts that add value to this platform. Their witness announcement came with the promise to
always strive and do our best to benefit the community and our members.
That's exactly what you want in a witness.
My other favourite, just annnounced here is @steemcommunity by @abh12345 and @paulag. They too are community focused and I'm sure, will work selflessly to benefit everyone here. @abh12345's history alone with his "Curation Leagues" speaks volumes to his selfless caring and commitment to steemit. His delegations to so many, and his support of we minnows, easily portrays his ability to see this platform as an inclusive community, where everyone is worthy of his attention. I have had the pleasure of getting to know @abh12345 over the last several weeks, and although I don't know @paulag well, I do trust Asher, and trust that who he has teamed up with is as worthy as he is for this position.
Yesterday, @beeyou wrote this post encouraging others to join in a talk about their favourite witnesses and why? I also know that @davemccoy is planning a series called "Let's Talk Witnesses", where he does an in-depth analysis of those that he has chosen.
The information is out there folks! It's a bit like voting on election day in the real world. This too is your responsibility and your opportunity to choose 30 people who represent your voice here. Make your votes count!

hay @lynncoyle1 - thank you very much for your support. I have also given a vote to @qurator
Hi @paulag, you are most welcome!! I think @qurator is a good choice for sure :)
I asked about this topic a few weeks ago and then started really looking into witnesses. Think for the most part after hours and hours of searching my list is pretty rock solid.
But for those that don't want to do all the research you can always set a proxy for someone you trust to make good decisions. By doing this your votes will mirror the proxies votes and you know it's taken care of. Honestly until you have a good idea of who and why you are voting for witnesses this is probably the best thing to do.
If I hadn't already done all the research I'd just set @abh12345 as my proxy. Our views of steemit are in line and he has researched his votes very well. Funny thing is we ended up with very close to the same list.
Maybe using a proxy is something I should do. Asher is as close to my own personal thoughts on things here as any, so thanks for the suggestion.
Did you go to the links the witnesses provide or did you find this information in their blog posts? I can see why it would take hours and hours to sift through all the information if it's all in easy to find places, let alone if it's scattered everywhere.
This is one of the pieces of the puzzle I've been putting off, and I probably should stop doing that. :)
I read countless posts and then read countless more. Went to each witnesses profile and looked at their activity here on steemit. Those that have secondary accounts for their non witness stuff I tried to hunt down and looked into those.
Some great posts about bot delegation came out right as I was researching and that helped. Decided I wanted witnesses that were deriving their main income from delegating their SP to bid bots, but instead ones that interacted with the community and supported the community.
Honestly I should have compiled a list as to why I voted for each. It would have been a very long post, but one that would of been helpful to a lot of people IMO. Bet I spent no less then 15 hours researching and then happened upon more info just during my normal day to day reading on steemit that I'm not counting as research time.
Okay. Sounds like I've got some reading to do. :) If you do decide to put that post together, though, I'll be sure to read it (don't do it just for me, though—wouldn't be worth it. :) ) I'm going to take my time to do this since I'd rather be doing other things than just researching who to vote for as witnesses. It's taken me all of three months so far just to entertain the idea. :)
Just set someone as proxy and don't worry about it. Heck you can set me as proxy if you wanted. Just pick someone that feels the same way about steemit as you do who has shown they understand what the witnesses are for and picked their witnesses with thought.
I probably won't make the post as I wasn't thinking that way as the research was done so didn't save my thought process behind each vote. Kind of kicking myself now after I said it would of made a good post...lol.
Procrastination is another reason why I made Asher my proxy. There's so much interesting information to sift through, and researching my witnesses just wasn't making it to the top of my list :)
Yeah. Talk about your archaeological digs!
I'm not sure if I want someone to be my proxy, though I'm seeing the advantages of it and know why ya'll have done it. Asher is as good a person as any, for sure.
I'm going to try to take a look at it before today or Saturday are through. It's carving out the time and steeling myself to doing the research that needs to take place first. If I'm not into it at all, I'm not going to get much out of it. Even if I end up with a few to vote for, I guess that's better than nothing.
I remember you and I having this discussion and that's when I realized that a lot of us don't know much about witnesses. I began the research, chose a few, and then gave it up to @abh12345 for the exact same reason! Good for you for following through.
I think there’s not enough education and transparency on the entire witness-issue. To me, it comes across as politics - lol.
For now, I’ve chosen my own witnesses from the people that have actually provided me with either help or a useful service.
It think it’s great to see more people focused on the community to start a witness campaign. Just the other day I read a (highly subjective) post and like a thousand comments on it about which witnesses do something for the community and which don’t. It was a great start to actually do some real research.
Which post was that? I think I would like to read it. :)
I believe you're right. There are some politics involved, and that's one of the reasons why I've been dragging my feet about voting for anyone. At the same time, witnesses are being voted in and they are already exercising their collective will on the platform. So, I've got a decision to make, I guess. Okay, 30 decisions. :)
Not all at once. I just pick them as I go along. About half of them I chose after they had been so supportive when I was hacked..
There’s no rush..
(About the post, it was this one by @berniesanders I told you it was highly subjective - lol. If you read it, take enough time to also read through the comment section. Some comments make a lot more sense than the post does...)
Yeah. I'm going to take my time on this. Knowing how I work, it's going to be an excruciatingly slow process and I'll probably end up changing my mind more than once. :)
re: the post
Considering the source, highly subjective is extremely accurate. :)
You're saying that there's politics here?? :)
I'm glad @glenalbrethsen piped in for me here; you two can do the 'politicking' without me haha
It is so good that you have written on this, @lynncoyle1... and paired Qurator with SteemCommunity! I too have voted for paulag & abh12345's latest venture, and believe in the both witnesses' objectives and beliefs! All the very best to both, and a good day to you too! Cheers!! :))
I'm glad you enjoyed it and am more happy that you've voted for them as well. Their beliefs and objectives are worth rooting for here ;)
Nice to meet you , and all the best to you too!
People do need to understand that the witnessed have an impact on the future of Steemit. So it is, in my opinion, utmost important that steemcommunity's voice will be heard!
I will go through the witness section every month or so. I look to see who is active, which one is working on community projects, etc. I have changed my votes a few times over the last 6-9 months of being on steemit. I would really suggest everyone take voting for a witness seriously.
I investigate the witness, check their stats and the things I mentioned above. The better the witness, the better the blockchain.
Well said @goldendawne! It certainly isn't something where you complete your list and never look back at it. The witnesses are a reflection of this blockchain, so all the better to do your due diligence. This might be something you should consider addressing in your Ask Dawne segment, if you haven't already, because I know for most new folks, this is the last thing on their minds.
I totally agree. I think when we're new, it's the last thing on our minds, but really, it should be front and center!
And that’s where should step in!
We should point out the importance of the witnesses and inform them about potentially good witnesses! But we should be aware that we are not forcing them to vote on a particular one!
Exactly! It's all about educating and not swaying people:)
This should nudge people out of complacency, no?
Namaste, JaiChai
I sure hope so ;) Or at least help them to vote for 2 of their witnesses!
When I saw Qurator and Steemcommunity throw there lot to become witnesses it was a no brainer for me to change some of my higher ranked ones to them as my 0.8 MV vote will be better to help them move a rank than some of the bigger players.
Bingo buddy! I couldn't have said it better!
Thank you @lynncoyle1!
So kind of you to give us this write-up and offer your support 😁
We really hope to have a positive impact for the younger accounts and communities here.
Awesome!
You are most welcome @abh12345!
That's exactly what I'm counting on ;) Congratulations again for making the decision to to this!
I have had a good taste of @abh12345 in his engagement project. I find that a very honorable cause as it is centered around a subject that for defines and makes a a community.
And then of course you @lynncoyle1 here recommend him. That enough qualifies him. I am quickly flipping over to vote him.
Thank you @mirrors for your trust in my opinion. If you will, consider voting for @qurator as well as I hold them in as high regard as @abh12345 :)
Thank you for stopping by!
I hold you in high regard, @lynncoyle1. Why? There is an African saying that says it far better than i can.
"An old man sitting on a stool can see farther than a young man who has climbed a tree" (Kikuyu Ethnic Group, Kenya)
You know these witnesses far better than i do. And with the little i thus far know regarding their importance to the platform, i think making the right choice of them matters to the future prospects of steemit.
I am off to cast a vote for @qurator
You make my heart smile @mirrors! That saying is better than anyone can say it I think. I absolutely love it :) Thank you!
It is well @lynncoyle1. And by the way. I still have more witness votes to give.
Let me proxy you on 5 more of them! Just say who.
Look at you go! Here's my advice: Check out @beeyou's post that I linked in my post here. There's a big discussion going on in the comments regarding witnesses and why people are voting the way they have. Check it out, research and see what you think. In the end, you can always ask someone to have a look at your list and offer some suggestions or you can look at others' lists as well. Do you use steemworld.org? It's a great place to do just that. PM me if you don't understand any of that last bit haha
I don't use steemworld.org. Let me do look it up, and see if i can acquaint with it. I should PM you just in case.
And also let me just immediately check out @beeyou's post. thanks
You are welcome! Here's the link to steemworld. When you open it, you'll see a notice for a newsletter as well from its' creator @steemchiller. I always look at those too to see what's new. You can also see your voting power and bandwidth information there along with a million other things! Be prepared to wander around the page for a while...there is so much cool stuff on it; you will be amazed!
I read thousands of posts a week when I look for ones to feature in the daily newsletters. I have added more daily newsletters (tasty Tuesday and Photo Friday) because we have so many great members that are deserving of recognition.
It is awesome that qurator is expanding to the witness stage of steemit!
Thank you @goldendawne! I can only imagine the sheer number of posts you look at daily; kind of tires me actually haha
I too am glad they are "expanding to the witness stage"...there needs to be quality there as well, and I think they can certainly add to that!
