Short Blockchain/Witness Update

It's been a pretty crazy evening/night. Just as Canada Day Weekend came to a close the blockchain got hit with an unexpected surprise, to say the least.

We have 97 missed blocks accrued over the patching process last night. Unfortunate to have that up permanently now and it'll probably cost us a lot of approvals from people who aren't aware of the enormity of the situation.

• These blocks are not an indication that the witness kept bouncing blocks, getting auto-disabled and then manually re-enabled. They didn't really mess anything up.

• Only one block is a real miss, due to running on no sleep and an old key.

• It took quite a while to replay and then we had to wait a few hours to enable since everyone still had to go to work in the morning. Up now.

• Everyone who's looking at running versions of active witnesses, remember that the version doesn't update until the first block is processed.

• As a @steemcleaners member I'm getting a whole shitton of messages about "did @netuoso break the blockchain?". The answer is no. He was trying to come up with the answer same as everyone else.

What it means is that the blockchain is meant to stop rather than fork and this is as intended.

• Obviously our highlighters didn't run last night so you'll have to get your reading lists for #veterans and #steemsilvergold the old fashion way for yesterday.

• Contest results and payouts will be done today/tomorrow. We'll do a few bonus prizes.

Let's tie this off by saying that no one went to bed before 4:30-5:00 am EST. The top witnesses that were available were doing their part and those who weren't, they made themselves available one way or another. A lot of people from the witness roster of various ranks were up.

Last point: Yesterday it became clear we need to get our site up to ensure we have alternative mass-communications measures. Look for it next week. Graphic designer interviews will start once general look and feel is done to establish colors.
