Meet Our Steemit Witness—Episode 7

As a steemian who want to see this platform continue to grow and flourish, we all have 30 votes to cast for any steemit witness of our choice and I will say this is the most important 30 votes you will ever cast on this platform.

Meet our steemit witness is a program put in place to know more about our steemit witness, there roles and obligations. We need them as much as they needs us. Our witness are the leaders on the platform and thus it is our paramount importance that we due our due diligence before casting our votes.

In this episode of this interview I would like to introduce you to the owner of the biggest bank on steemit.

The CEO of the only bank that changes it name during every business transaction. I call him an economist because his bank is a place where you take loans to settle pressing issues and pay back with little interest. One of the witness that that encourage minnows not to give up on here on steemit, a friendly 🐉 dragon. He has been on this platform since July 2016 and he has help in maintaining the ecosystem through his great contribution here on steemit because he is one of the witnesses who developed @minnowsupport to help minnows.

For steemians who don’t know much about witnesses, can you give a layman explanation of what it is that witnesses do?

• @neoxian~Witnesses form the backbone of the Steem system. We run nodes that create blocks and add them to the blockchain. This also makes us the guardians and promoters of the Steem system.

How did you first hear about steemit and what made you decide to join?

• @neoxian~I heard about it back in July of 2016, and I was hooked on the idea almost away. This was around with the Bitcoin blocksize controversy had started and it became clear that both Reddit and Bitcointalk were heavily censored. I wanted an uncensorable forum right on the blockchain and Steem was it.

You have a bank on steemit, can you tell us more about how it functions and how you try to manage it?

• @neoxian~My bank works like a real Bank does. It takes deposits from customers and pays them 6% APR. Then I turn around and try to put that money to work, earning hopefully much more than 6% APR. Mainly this means either loaning it out, or renting delegations.

Being a witness takes a lot of time and energy, how do you keep a balance between this and other commitments?

• @neoxian~To be honest, it depends on what type of witness you are. Running a basic server isn’t really that time consuming (normally). It’s the other projects you do above and beyond that which are time consuming. My main project right now is my Bank.

Where do you see steem and steemit in 5 years?

• @neoxian~Well I sure hope they are still around. It think they will be, but we need to keep innovating, making changes, adding things like SMT and other improvements.

When you are not in front of your computer helping the Steem community, what other hobbies do you have?

• @neoxian~Uhh, what spare time? Right now it’s mostly playing video games and maintaining my crypto empire.

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you and tell us more about yourself?

• @neoxian~Sorry, I’m the mysterious Neoxian and shall remain mysterious for a while longer.

With some of the current problems Steem faces, what, if any solutions do you see?

• @neoxian~The big problem is that neither N^2 nor N voting power has been good for Steem:

• N^2: We had voting synergy which was awesome, but it made whales incredibly powerful compared to minnows

• N: This made whales less powerful and smaller accounts more powerful, but we lost that great voting synergy, and made voting bid bots much more viable.

• The solution would be to somehow re-introduce voting synergy without having to resort to n^2 voting power. One way to solve this would be to somehow verify people’s identities in a decentralized way, but this is an unsolved problem.

• I guess the big answer is SMT (Smart Media Tokens) (hopefully).

With so many other tools and sites having been created for the Steemit user, if you had to pick one, which would be the most useful for a new Steemian to use?

• @neoxian~I really like https://steemworld.org super useful.

Is there any project you have at hand now or you already have one?

What is the biggest mistake new users make when joining Steemit?

• @neoxian~Unreasonable expectations when coming in. Unless you already are very talented or have a large fan base, you probably are not going to make very much. It will take a ton of effort to change this.
  Not being careful with your keys. I encounter plenty of people through my bank that are still logging on with their private owner key.

Are you a fan of cryptocurrency?

• @neoxian~Haha! Of course!

Besides being heavily invested in steem, which other cryptocurrency do you fancy?

• @neoxian~Ok, I like EOS, Bitcoin, Dash, Litecoin, Monero, Ethereum

What do you think is the future of cryptocurrency?

• @neoxian~I think cryptos have a bright future, and may transform the world, turning the Banking system upside down changing everything we know.

What will be the implications of government having a say in crypto world?

• @neoxian~The goverments are going to try to fight crypto-currencies and they are eventually going to lose, though they may try to create their own and force people to use them.

If there was a worldwide internet and cellular blackout for a week, what would you do for those 7 days?

• @neoxian~Hide in a bunker with food and guns? I don’t know that would be a pretty distasterous thing to happen.

If you could only vote for one witness (not yourself) who would it be and why?

• @neoxian~Phew that’s a tough question, but since I have to pick someone, I’ll go with @someguy123. He has the right combination of technical know-how while also still being social and engaging with others in the system. He created Anon-steem, and runs Privex, and makes Steem in a box.

In 5 sentences or less, tell steemians why you deserve their vote?

• @neoxian~I try to be very active in the system, and to vote the little guy and worthy people when I can. I run the best Bank on the Steem blockchain.

If you could give advice to new steem(it) user’s just starting out on steemit, what would it be?

• @neoxian~Ok, a new user should write about things that fancinate them, things they are passionate about. They should make smart comments on other people’s posts. Make friends, get involved in Discord and projects, build those social connections. Try to think outside the post, run a business on the chain, make deals, and be honest and honorable in what you do.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?

• @neoxian~I guess I’d go for psychic mind powers, reading minds, that sort of thing.
