THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 22 - ORNATE BOX TURTLE

in #wild-man7 years ago

These are some beautifully designed box turtles!

I am amazed at the number of species of animals that were also native to Wisconsin, but had such reduced numbers that they were considered endangered, threatened, or protected there, that can be found in abundance in the Ozarks. I'd rather be able to pick up and look at an animal freely, without having it be illegal, so I certainly appreciate it.

As the photo above can testify to, these turtles can move rather quickly when they want to. (Just look at how its legs are a blur!) The Ornate Box Turtle (Terrapene ornata ornata) is one of the common species of box turtles here. The Three Toed Box Turtle can also be found in abundance here. Unfortunately, though raccoons, possums, and coyotes pose natural threats to these beautiful creatures, I think that vehicles running them over on the road may be their primary cause of death. For more info, check out my video.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

@papa-pepper - I wonder where you find the time to be with all these wonderful and exotic animals. The patterns on the turtles are just amazing. They do move fast when they want as you say. That was interesting to see. I always have seen turtles move very slowly.
Since I am into wildlife photography, I love to see such blogs from you. Very inspiring.

Thanks for sharing. Upvoted

I have put up couple of funny wildlife blogs ( my funny bone seems to be acting up 😀😀). I request you to take a look if you have time. Your comments would be very welcome. Thanks.

As I've been following these posts, I have the same question! @papa-pepper - Do you have any posts that are more biographical, that describe how you live and what you are up to on a day-to-day basis? In my mind, I imagine that you live off the grid with your family, homesteading in the forests of Arkansas, growing/hunting your own food, etc. I'd be really interested to hear your story, and especially how you got on Steemit!

@papa-pepper - Those markings on the Turtle's shell look like they were made with a yellow highlighter, very cool.

I am glad about your support of local species. While most people is concerned about risk of extinction species, very few consider the risk that having an exotic pet creates for biodiversity.

If I'm left high and dry at the end of this wild journey, just taking it is a great feeling. Grant me some wild expressions, Heavens, or I shall burst. Good job.

Thank you! Glad that you liked it!

Its so beautiful turtle
I like your photo

Cool turtle man! I knew they could move pretty fast, but I didn't know they lived for 30 years

Some species can live for much longer. Thanks for checking out the video!

When i was a kid i used to have a tortoise for years.. The export of tortoises have been banned now. So now they export box turtles
