Setting off at Ilam Park in the Derbyshire Peak District.

It’s a small, stately home owned by The National Trust, with lots of countryside, Dove Dale and hill fort history.
The weather is dry and pretty mild but it’s very muddy.

I’ve let them get forward of me for a picture. They are talking ten to the dozen and Mia will keep up an avid conversation all the way round. I think they were discussing music when I dropped back. We are on the look out for other dogs as ours, Aoife, could get the Darwin Award for despising her own species.

Over the river and into the fields

My darling, the geomicrobiologist, uses the British geological survey app to map the walking paths, of course. He’s fighting a losing battle with me and Mia. It’s like herding cats 😂. He has a need of a map, where I have the thrill of navigating like the salmon and getting lost and found again. Mia’s inherited a tendency to off road and a desire to do what she’s told she shouldn’t.

Here he’s pointing the way “make it so!” Style.
Here’s the outcome:

Mia’s providing the musical accompaniment with a rendition of Amy Winehouse:

Being all ‘rockstar’ hand to camera:

And interjecting “what’s ‘Tanqueray’?,” (Jon answers for us both ... I had no idea ... another bit of song) “what’s ‘Stella’?” (More singing) “Roger Moore, is that James Bond?” ... etc.

Followed by a hilarious & inappropriate conversation about “dogging” just because we passed a parked car in the middle of nowhere and it’s the workings of a 17 year old mind.
I remark that I saw a lot of people doing that at Morrison’s this morning (innocently parking their cars 😜) “yeah! We know what you’re up to”
😂😂😂

We get into a jokey semantic debate about labelling, and perhaps you’re innocently having sex in your car and someone with a dog happens along and you get labelled as doggers and dogees... “Yeah. We know what you’re up to.” We joke.

Approaching a very Bronté esque house up a steep hill now. It’s alone in a beautiful and bleak landscape with lichen encrusted walls all around and spectacular views.

(Now, driving home, We’re driving up a 1:6 country lane as I write. Goodness! )

Back the way we came as onward was through a field of horses and Mia can’t abide horses. She used to be an amazing rider. I’ve seen her keep her seat for 6 or 7 bucks and rears on a joyous Hafflinger, frolicking his way into a ride. But about 3 years ago she got kicked in the head and run to ground by a cob who suddenly lost the plot and she has entirely lost her trust.
I've only just begun to be able to walk in a field with a horse and I’m not sure I could ride again either.

Back past a lovely collage in a dusky country lane, with what sounded like someone playing piano from inside, the lights all bright in the windows

and the first snowdrops littering the banks.

Fish & chips on the way home after collecting Yuki, who’d been making a dramatic play with her friends all afternoon, a modern version of Romeo & Juliet where Juliet survives and Romeo [who is called Oliver] is shot by the police.
They've been climbing and helped out at a birthday party in a residential home for disabled people. She’s come home to find another friend in the kitchen, visiting our Freya (13) and they are living it large and loudly (BTS Korean pop).
I’ve headed for the sanctuary of my tiny office.

Which looks like the Somme C1940 right now but will look like this again in May.

@sallybeth23 ... as promised <3

Oh Wow! That’s amazing! About 8 years ago my family and I stayed at Ilam Hall for a night’s stop over on our way to Northumberland! We did the same walk, certainly as far as the ‘Bronte-esque” house, but I think we took a short cut from there! It was snowy and beautiful when we were there! What lovely memories that brings back! Thanks you For sharing that!! Xx

Welcome! Glad you’ve been there too! Maybe we can have a homeopath’s Away day up our way?
Xxx

@alanfreestone and I have talked about doing a weekend sometime.

It is beautiful over there :)

It really is. And it’s so different to so many parts of the world. I know, when I’ve travelled, that new places can be so fascinating. My daughter asked ‘who wants to see this lot? Why are you blogging walls!” Haha. I’m a bit fascinated by walls and (much to her confusion) “things as domestic as a land drain!”
I loved this project when I came across @sallybeth23’s walkwithme because it gives us the chance to explore and to be a bird flying above someone else’s landscape (well, fly on a wall didn’t seem outdoorsy enough as a metaphor 😂)

What a tour! The hill on the first picture looked steep O.O The house on the hill, is it occupied? Or something like an inn or museum? And what are those pink trees? I wonder if I can get any to grow in a tropical place. And Yuki's such a sweetheart! Tidbit that surprised me a bit though is she's into kpop? I do listen to it, too. Not an Army (BTS fandom name) but I am into a few fandoms haha

Flowering cherries are the trees. 😄
All three of my younger ones are BTS fans. Also ACE and BAP recently! 😄they are also really into the 1 Million dance studio, just about every Korean drama you can think of and kimchi! 😂
I think I live in a little Korean enclave of UK sometimes!

I love the trees! The color reminds me of cotton candy lol. I'm mostly into 2nd gen and early 3rd gen kpop group (Highlight/BEAST, Infinite, Apink, Big Bang, 2ne1, BtoB, VIXX, BAP, etc). I've heard of ACE in passing (most likely a recently debuted group). My mom is into kdrama while my sister and I are more into kpop. I did have a kdrama phase though xD

Shinee is a bit of a fav in my house at the moment.

The house seems to be a working farm too.

Awesome place to walk it's an amazing
walking is good for health and for our human body.

This looks like a lovely place for a walk! It kinda reminds me of the movie 'The Holiday' (great movie) :-)

Fantastic movie (it’s a Xmas must for us).
That’s set a lot south of us in Shere. Iris’ cottage is actually a shell/replica built in the style of the smallest English cottage (owned also by the National Trust) because said cottage is too remote for film crews!

The area we walked today is the ‘white’ peak ... which is very green and mostly limestone, so not unlike bits of the south.

Next walk, I’ll take you all to the ‘dark’ peak, which is where I live. It’s moorland set in peat and clay rather than limestone or chalk. It gives rise to spectacular heaths with heather blossoming purple in the late summer.

Wow, I had no idea! But yeah, that movie is great!
I'm excited to see the dark peak next time! Although I do love areas with limestone! :-)

Best get my muddy boots on again and walk the mud off then!

That's right! :-)

Cracking walk. That first shot is amazing a pyramid in the peak district haha 💯🐒

It’s a beautiful area. I never get bored of looking at it. There’s another hill there which is flattened off at the top. It’s really high and people ct the top off it for a fort in some long ago age.

Amazing! I want to go 💯🐒
