Milky Way And Sunrise Photo Adventure at Pfeiffer Beach, Big Sur - The Keyhole
Join me on my latest photo adventure to Pfieffer Beach, Big Sur where I photograph the Milky Way and the sunrise at the Keyhole. A bit of "how-to" information is included.
What a sight to see in person! The beach is beautiful and the Keyhole Rock is incredible. I had been to Big Sur, California before but not to this spot. Last time I visited, Pfeiffer Beach was closed due to landslides. This time, I got incredibly lucky at the Keyhole as the Milky Way lined up right above it. Those "keeper" photos can be seen at the end of the video.
This was shot on June 23rd, while out camping with family and friends for a few days. Great times were had by all and tons of cell phone photos were taken. A decent amount of drinking also took place so getting up at 3 am for this shoot was a bit rough. Please forgive the amount of mistakes in the video, I was ridiculously tired, haha!

@scottshots I've been wanting to visit this beach. I think there is a few days a year where you can capture the sunset going through the key hole.
It's a pretty cool beach! Last year when I went, it was closed due to the mudslides. Glad it was open this year. Yes! You can capture the moonlight shining through the keyhole too certain times of the year. This trip was more about camping with the family so photography came second. But I got incredibly lucky with the Milky Way lining up above the keyhole, no research, just had the time to shoot it. Cheers!

Glad you liked that @armandosodano! I too have fished many times right before sunrise. It's a great time of day, or night really... You just have to take a nap later in the day haha!

Was that a canon 7D? My Dad has a Canon 80D LOL. Cool vlog @scottshots what an awesome coastal experience to share with us ^_^ Those photos looked better than real life, filters really do wonders.
Thank you @jacknaxter! It was great to get out of the mountains for a while and shoot the coast. No filters for the Milky Way shots but yes, they are very helpful for sunrise shots. The camera is a Canon 5DS R, I love the 50.6 megapixel image sensor for the large prints I produce. Cheers!

Isn't that cool!? It was at Pfeiffer Beach, in Big Sur, California. You can't miss the "Keyhole" if you visit, the colored sand was all over there.
Have you ever heard of the grotto @ Tobermory, Ontario, Canada? That keyhole reminded me of this underwater cave passage into Georgian Bay. I have been there twice! I haven't been in a couple years but climbing down is so worth it! Check it out, I guarantee a google images "sight for sore eyes" ^_^
