To make out planet chemical free requires several genius and ingenus ways, solving the problem of Green House Effect needs all hands and innovations on deck. In Asia, there is a nature-friendly approach to food(Grain) production without using Chemicals(Pesticides, Herbicides etc.), "Specially bred Ducks" are used to make Rice Farming less dependent on Chemicals in places like Japan, Iran, Thailand, China and several other countries.

Integrated Duck Rice Farming

One of the food/crop that could be produced, planted without chemical dependent is Rice. These special breeds of Ducks replace conventional application of pesticides, it works by releasing them into the paddy terrains of Rice Plantations and they eat all insects and weeds. Surprisingly, they leave Rice plants untouched, but insects, weeds, weed seeds are not spared which makes the coming planting season a less weed one for the Farmers.

This practice makes the rice grown more resistant to extreme weather(Typhoon, Hurricanes), a very key advantage for farmers, it is an alternate means of chemical application in farming which is exteremly healthy for our planet as it reduces toxic release into the atmosphere.

Problems and Solutions

One particular problem encountered in this farming practice is the Ducks trampling Rice when they grow bigger and fatter. The Ducks kills young Rice plants and they might hamper production rate.

But two simple solutions was introduced;

Overhauling the Ducks used at the end of each planting season with a new batch of younger and small breeds with the bigger and fatter Ducks supplied as Poultry meat productions.
A smaller specice of Ducks could be used, The Indian Runner Duck is a perfect alternative as it stays slimmer even when fully grown, with this more economical approach, it is a win-win situation for Farmers and our dear Planet.
