Vegan Cottage Pie

This is a healthy meal which is very low in fat and even has some green stuff on the side, and it tastes awesome, even my 10 years old daughter asked for seconds. To start off I chop up potatoes and boil them while I'm making the sauce.

image

To make the sauce I crumble the tofu into a pan.

image

Then squirt some liquid smoke, or if you can buy smoked tofu.

image

image

Then I slash on some soy sause.

image

image

Then I add a teaspoon ground coriander.

image

Then I chop up 2 onions and mix, and fry a little till onions are translucent.

image

Then about 5 cloves of chopped garlic.

image

If it is sticking I use a little spray cook.

image

Then I add a can of peeled plum tomatoes.

image

About 200ml of water, it can't be too watery.

image

I like to use fresh basil, but dryed would work too.

image

image

Once it is cooked for about 15 minutes pour it into a baking tray.

image

image

Then mash up the potatoes and sprinkle on top of the sauce.

image

Then I sprinkle nutritional yeast flakes on top of the potatoes to give it a cheesey taste.

image

image

Then I bake it in the oven for about an hour at a medium heat, as long as the sauce is boiling and it goes golden brown on top.

image

Lastly it is just a matter of dishing up with a side of veggies, as you can see I used brocoli.

Any way give it a go, it is awesome!

Thank you for that, I really appreciate it.

Hey @gguy773, this looks really delicious and healthy! I love potatoes and I love tofu and this is like a perfect match! What inspired you to come up with this recipe? Ooo come to think of it, the possibilities for the sauce is pretty endless, isn't it? We can mix and match with many other ingredients too. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Hi and thanks, well my family and I are vegans so I veganise all the meals we used to eat, I just posted a new one if you interested, wild mushrooms with smoked tofu, thanks for the kind words.

Ah why do you choose to be vegans, may I ask? I like eating veges and I am ok not eating meat but not seafood. The one thing that is holding me back from becoming a vegan. Yummm!!! I just read it. You are so lucky to have a forest nearby to pick the mushrooms! But how do you know which are safe to eat?

There are many good reasons to be vegan, regarding seafood, if you feel animals have feelings and a soul, so do sea animals, octopi and crayfish are just as curious as cats, which I have experienced for myself while snorkeling. Hope you find this helpful.

Hey @gguy773, thank you for pointing that out. I have never thought of that actually. And you are right, they do have feelings too. Something for me to ponder upon and think deeply into. Thank you @gguy773. I wish you a good and happy Sunday there :)

Very delicious just from the photos alone, much more if you give me some lol

How many hours you prepare that Gguy773?

Throw me some quickly!
Or just hand me over lol

Half an hour to make sauce and mash and another 45 min to bake, just give me your address and I'll post some lol.

Oh thank you!

I'm here in the Philippines. Use google earth and find my country. Just put the pie in your drone and let it search my place.

I believe the meal will be of great nutrients from the ingredients combined. Nice recipe, I may redirect my wife to this

I do wonder why i feel so hungry all of a sudden...must be your food! I am sure i would like it just as your 10 year old does. I have never prepared something like this before and it seems easy to make. I do hope i would be able to get the ingredients.

Steem is teaching me a lot about cooking. I really didn't know something like liquid smoke existed. That is interesting. Does it help give that smoke flavor to the food? What exactly does it do? Thanks.

Hi, yeah liquid smoke gives it a smokey taste, it is what they do when you buy smoked meat, they cheat by dipping it in this smoked liquid and not smoking the meat properly, real smoking and curing of meat takes a long time, that is why most meat factory's cheat.

Wow, thanks so much.

I do like the twist you gave it, it does look like it will taste delicious not sure if it will be good as the traditional one though. Was it as good? For a 10yr old to like it, it must be! I will so love to try it out!

That's great, thanks
