How to View Your Steem Keys/Passwords and How to Change Your Master Password
In Steemit, there are several keys or passwords. Unlike other sites that usually just have a single password and that was it.
It is a bit confusing in viewing your passwords in Steemit since it is not visible in the drop down menus and in your settings page like the usual sites I have used before.
In order to view and access your Steem keys and passwords, you will have to go to your wallet page.
In your wallet page, you can view Permissions and Password below the colored tab where other tabs the other tabs were located just like in the photo below.
In the Permissions tab, you can view your 4 permission keys/passwords. These are Posting key, Active Key, Owner key and Memo key. It is important to keep these keys/passwords private to make sure that your account was safe from being hacked, specially your owner's key which is your master password.
Each of those keys have descriptions below on what its specific purpose or function.
More details about those specific keys below.
Posting Key
- When you log-in in your Steemit account with your posting key, you will be able to post/create blogs, write comments, vote, and follow other Steemit accounts. You can also redeem your rewards by just signing in using your posting key. That is why it is advisable to sign in using only your posting key since it is safer to use. You can only just use your Active key when it will be necessary like in transferring your funds or withdrawals. .
Active Key
- Signing in with your active key can allow you to perform majority of the functions in your account. Except for changing your owner key. The active key will allow you to change all other keys on an account, including the active key itself. You can transfer, trade, power up or down your Steem power using this key. As well as vote for witnesses.
Owner Key
- The owner key is your master password. You need to really keep it safe cause logging in with this key, you can do anything in your account such as posting and transferring funds, and even changing the owner/master key. It is the password that was given after your account was confirmed and that you were prompted to Do not Lose your password cause it cannot be retrieved as there is no Forget password function on Steemit. That is why better to keep it safe on paper or in your safest storage file.
Memo Key
- Is the key in order for you to create and read memos.
You can also change the owner/master password by clicking the Password tab.
But better think a lot of times before doing so and read the warnings in the page such as not losing your password and it cannot be recovered. You will be prompted to sign in with your master password before you can change it, that is why it is very important to keep it safe cause others can do that change if they have access or they know your master password.
I hope that my contribution will be useful for the platform. Thanks.

Ohhhh great @zararina, very informative and helpful article you wrote and describe the whole scenario of using password and importance of keys specially master key very well.thanks for updating. love your work.
Thanks for the comment. :)
you can't change your password. because if you're change your password is new by machine generated and you can't memorize. so don't push the generate. but if you are lost your old password you can generate new password. i hope you understand by @KantZone
Even your old password is hard to memorize, as it was said, if you can remember your password, it is not a good password. :)
You cannot generate new password if you lost your old password cause you will need that to log in first before you can generate another password.
This is really helpful.
I suddenly realized I only backed up my Posting key. Hahahaha Thanks for the reminder @zararina!!!

So if you want to log in at steemgar and they're asking for the activ key, you are logging in via steemconnect v2 is this save or not save? Because as read in this articel it would be something not to do, because the activ key has a lot of permissions allready? Right?
