Visibility, promotion, awareness are very important aspects for all projects. In this post, I am inviting marketers who are on (or wish to join) steem, to learn more about Open Source Projects and to help bring those closer to the world!

[1] What is Steem?

---

Steem¹ is a blockchain that was created in March 2016. Shortly after it run online, the first application that was built to use the blockchain, was steemit.com². A blogging and social networking platform, the first of the many platforms that followed in the next years.

There are many applications that use steem blockchain³ and Utopian Colony is one of them.

[2] What is Utopian?

Utopian.io platform uses the steem blockchain to reward users who contribute to open source projects⁴.

Utopian was founded in September 2017 and "In a little over a year, Utopian was able to facilitate over 70,000 contributions to over 9,000 repositories and embrace a community of more than 5,000 contributors."⁵

Visibility Category is the place where marketers and digital professionals can contribute to open source projects, in order to promote them and be rewarded for their actions.

✔ If you have a Facebook page or twitter account, you can promote whitelisted open source projects via promoted/paid posts.


✔ If you have social media accounts with more than 10.000 followers, you can write about open source projects and promote them to your followers.


✔ Paid search engine and display ads placement

✔ Contribute to a task-request

[5.2.] Which are the projects that someone can contribute?

✔ The Whitelisted Open Source Projects, that you can see here are the ones that digital marketers can currently promote without having a prior written consent.

✔ Alternatively, when a Project Owner posts a task request, you can contact them, discuss the aspects, goals, details and then you can proceed to the execution of the digital campaign.

[5.3] Are there any prerequisites to contribute?

Steem Account
You should have a steem account, in order to post about your contribution.

Measurable Results
This way, you will be able to know the project's strengths, identify the audience who would be interested in it and thus you will be able to know, plan and execute a campaign with measurable outcome.

Personal Experience Optional but necessary
If you are a marketer, you should know that in order to promote something, it is important that you have a good knowledge & personal experience for it.

[5.4.] Guidelines

General Guidelines Guidelines are in place to ensure integrity and quality of submissions. Please take some time to read here the General Guidelines that apply for all the category submissions

Category Guidelines The submitted campaigns should perform with a minimal total reach of at least 10,000 unique users and CTR (click-through rate) of over 1.5% on Twitter and 1% on Facebook (unless otherwise specified by the project owner in the Task Request).

To be considered for potential reward, submissions should include valid and verifiable proof of the visibility activities undertaken including:

• An overview of the goals, bidding strategy, details and choice of target audience, reasoning of said choice, as well as results of the campaign.
• Ad copy and graphics used in the campaign.
• Downloadable reports (when available) pertaining the activity.
• Screenshots of the promotional activity from the platform used.
• Links to promoted content, landing page and (when applicable) a link to the ad itself.

[5.5.] How are users rewarded?

---

After the user has published a post, a Utopian moderator will be evaluating and reviewing the post, according to the guidelines and as per a predefined set of questions. Utopian will reward the post as per the score of the moderator.

The first tag to use is the utopian-io and the second tag to use is social
You can also use the project's name as tag an anything else you believe is appropriate (up to 5 tags in total)

[6] TL;DR₆ Version

Utopian is a platform that helps & rewards users who contribute to open source projects! There are many categories that someone can contribute to (development, graphics, visibility).

In order to contribute, the users need to have a steem account, devote sometime to learn more about the specific project(s), read the guidelines and publish a post on steem following the corresponding template.

Visibility is a category where marketers can help projects being promoted with paid ads or to their social media channels (assuming they have more than 10,000 followers)

Check the Whitelisted projects, maybe you are already using some. So, why not tell your followers about the projects?

Follow the guidelines, create a promotion, monitor, measure and showcase the results, reach, conversion and .. let us know about it!
