RE: @utopian-io - Voting Analysis: User reputation and vote weight

in #utopian-io7 years ago

Great post Asher! I am very happy to see that vote weight by author REP has such a nice even distribution. It seems that utopian-io is doing a good job of rewarding content instead of reputation, as it should be. Thanks for sharing the queries you used to pull this data, to me that gives this post so much more value than just the analysis itself (which is already very interesting) - the queries are a great starting point for someone who has a little knowledge of SQL (like myself) and wants to get into analyzing the blockchain.

My question for follow up research would be to look at both the raw numbers of votes per allowable submission category (and vs. total # submitted in that category if that is possible, which would involve splitting out the tags from the json_metadata to get the 2nd tag/submission category), and also average vote strength for various submission categories. I am sure this would definitely interest contributors and potential/future contributors!

Just a note for any readers - @arcange is upgrading the SteemSQL database infrastructure to better support the heavier use loads it has been experiencing and he is doing this out of his own pocket. If any of the readers of this comment have a big heavy wallet full of SBD or STEEM that you just don't know what to do with, consider a donation to @arcange in support of the amazing, publically accessible SteemSQL database! (sorry to hijack your comment thread Asher - great post!)

Thanks Carl, very helpful reply this.

I did wonder about the SQL server as more of us start to use it in earnest. I'm going to send a donation over to @arcange shortly - thanks for that.

I'll check to see if I'm not stepping on others toes before the excellent additional analysis suggestions - certainly worth a look. I did see the json_metadata looking quite different (I'm assuming it's utopian submissions and on the phone so can't check), but I'm sure it can be solved.

Thank you!

yeah I haven't dug around too much but I did notice the json_metadata was structured very differently for utopian.io posts. This could be a future post in and of itself - how to unpack the tags from the json_metadata of a utopian.io post! Here is where they are located, you can see that they are buried behind a ton of other data that you wouldn't see in a normal steemit.com post:

Awesome!

You doing that one or shall I get on it tomorrow?!

Feel free :) I have a bunch on my plate the next few days :)
