Ulog 41: TGIF and Inspiration

in #ulog6 years ago (edited)

Happy Friday my lovelies.
YAY YAY TGIF!

It’s pouring with rain here and blowing a hoolie. I had to bring a change of trousers to work with me as I knew I’d get soaked on my walk to the car (I was right!) But… I like this kind of weather sometimes. I find it… inspiring. Is that weird? It’s almost like, if you achieve anything when it’s like this outside, then a minor miracle has occurred... so somehow I try harder when it’s raining.

So, this Friday, let’s talk about the things that inspire us.

Rain

Yes – rain in one of mine. I love to huddle up in my art studio and draw when the weather outside is disgusting. This is just as well, as I’ve got a busy few months with the pencils lined up ahead of me! I’ve trained myself to work under artificial lights as I currently have to do all of my drawing around my day job, so when I get busy I’m often found drawing late at night with not a scrap of natural light available.

People with Big Ideas

I find other people with big ideas and bucket-fulls of passion for what they do to be inspiring. It doesn’t tend to matter what their big ideas are- just that they have this energy coming from them and they’ll talk at length about what it is that drives them. I love that.

The right music track

Sometimes it’s small things, right? But hearing the right piece of music at the right moment can lift you and transform your day into something spectacular.

People doing amazing things

This is different to the Big Idea thing above. This is people pushing themselves to do something amazing- usually to support someone else. Today, this amazing person is my little sister. She is doing The Virtual Frontline Walk in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. This involves walking 100km by November 11th . This is an amazing challenge in itself, but my sister works in a busy kitchen, is often on her feet at work for 9 hours per day.

She also suffers from plantar fasciitis which causes her severe discomfort in her feet. But if you read her story on her fundraising page, she explains that since losing our wonderful mum 7 months ago, walking has been her therapy, her way of dealing with the grief… and so she is determined to do this amazing challenge. She is a complete history nut, and specialises in the two great wars – so for her, this is more than just a series of walks. It will connect her to our mum, to her passion and push her to her limits.

If you can spare it, I’m sure she’d love your support to help her reach her target, no matter how big or small.

Well my lovelies, have a wonderful Friday. Tell me, what inspires you?
Eveningart x

P.S. Thank you so much @dreemsteem for creating my funky Bitmoji for me :) I can tell we're going to have a lot of fun together!

Quad Squad, checking in. You find rain inspiring? That's one way of looking at it, I suppose. I'm just grateful for the reprieve from screen glare when it's a bit cloudy outside, lol.

I'm a bit of a contrarian when it comes to inspirational stuff, to be completely honest. I find the platitudes propagated on many platforms telling people to never give up despite obviously having no real knowledge of their situation disingenuous. How do you know if I should give up or not? If I don't have the wherewithal to see something through to the end, I probably should give up earlier rather than later. Blind determination isn't always the best course of action, at least that is the way I look at it.

Of course, this mentality leads to a strange set of affairs where I find demotivational material more motivating than the motivational stuff. Stuff that specifically parodies the usual motivational message by saying something cynical or deprecating, while keeping the same scenic background. I guess it's just that the humor itself gives me a good chuckle. Poking fun at failure is kind of like poking fun at death; it removes the ominous and nebulous power that it holds over you.

Haha- well yes, I can completely understand about the screen glare side of things... I guess that's how I feel when I'm pottering around outside too when it's cloudy- more relaxed as my eyes aren't having to filter that glare.

I find your outlook on inspiration fascinating. I do have to agree that empty platitudes shared around whilst slobbed out in front of social media have such a wonderful irony to them... they tend to make me smirk and shudder at the same time. Equally, reading about someone who is genuinely doing something exciting that is pushing forward towards their passion can really lift me up and make me strive harder towards what I want out of life.

A good chuckle can't be beaten and there's definitely something to be said for removing that external power that the big bad can hold over you - like death, failure (or moths, in my case).

Thanks for popping in :)

The only thing rain inspires me to do is to snuggle in my blankets....😃 it feels just right to do that when it rains😊 okay, kidding aside... When I am not in my room maybe watching the rain as it falls, it inspires me to think deep, the good type of thinking...😉

Just like you, I do draw inspiration from music as well, I do that most of the time, really... Often times, my inspiration comes from within (can I say from nowhere?) 😀

Well, there are times that I get inspired through hearing other people's story..

Your sister is doing an amazing thing, really....

Sending you love from the Quad Squad❤🤗😊🌹

Ooh I'm feeling so much love from the Quad Squad right now :)

I'm so with you on snuggling up in blankets- that's the desire I have on this very grey Monday morning. That said, that desire might be coming from the fact that it is Monday rather than the fact that it is raining.

Yes- I'm the same, hearing other people's stories often encourages me to write the next part of my own.

I really am proud of my sister, she's doing so well :)
Thanks for stopping in,
E x

Mmm I was just saying to Audrey that all I want to do today is curl up under the blankets and listen to the rain... maybe you could make me some chocolate rice to go with it?!

Yes- inspiration is coming thick and fast at the moment- now all I need to do is figure out how to actually get it onto paper before it burns out.

Stay safe in this bad weather, and thank you so much for popping by.
E x

Ohhhhh sure! I would love to make everyone a steaming hot chocolate rice anytime..

Hold on to the inspiration a bit and dont let it burn so fast! Linger to it for a long while.. give him a sofa bed so he can relax and be at home hahahahaha..

Same goes to you! Always take extra cares our doodle queen.. 😉😙

People implying their hearts in good content posts inspire me. Posts tha pass forward good deeds and ideas also do. Thank you for being so inspirational yourself, no matter the inconveniences of disgusting weather!

Hey Ravi- yes absolutely, I completely agree - there is so much amazing content sharing peoples' passions and adventures and knowledge and ideas here- it just fills you up, doesn't it.

Thank you, that's such a lovely compliment. Have a wonderful week, E x

hahahha you are so welcome for that bitmoji ;) its a super spy bitmoji hehehehehe

and i used to have plantar fasciitis too but i found these amazing stretches online and IT WENT AWAY!

i couldn't believe it!!! the pain was so intense for like 8 months (i had been walking about 5 miles everyday at least - sometime 10-15 miles!!!) but the stretches worked. i'll see if i can find some on youtube and DM you with them!

love you lovey darling doodles hehehehe

I love it so much - I can see I could get addicted to her. J cut my hair this weekend, and now I look even more like her!!

It sounds so so painful to have that - Rhi is doing all sorts of stretches and she has this weird boot she has to sleep in which makes her flex her foot all night. Youch! But if you do find them, that would be amazing- I'll pass them on to her.

Love you too you loony <3
E x

ohhhhhh i considered getting the boot too!!!! but if she's already doing stretches - maybe they're not working for her. i'll send them anyway - but the ones that i did were super basic, so she's probably already got the list LOL
awwww. i'm sorry she's in pain. really. nothing like hobbling after standing up to make you feel old!!! i was like 34 when i had it??? and you'd think i was 80!!! the way i looked when i took those first 20 steps or so after sitting down. thats when it hurts the most. when you're walking,, it subsides. but as soon as you sit down - it swells, and that next step after you stand on your heel noooooooooooooooooo like a hot poker digging in your heel. so painful!!!

That sounds so so horrible. I can't believe she's doing this epic walk as well as the 9 hour days in the kitchens too... crazy moose!

Yipes...sounds like a go-getter!!! But she is probably such a fireball! Hehehe

Posted using Partiko Android

Complete fireball! 5 ft 2 - and paid her way through uni working as a bouncer ;)

Oh my ... our whole island does feel right now like sinking into rain and the Mediterranean at the same time :) Seems to rain all over Europe right now :)

I have missed these rainy days so much! Don't laugh @eveningart ... I love rainy days ... very creative time right now .... <3 I completely understand that rain inspires you!!! <3
xx

Every single time you comment on my posts, I marvel at all the strange similarities we have. It makes me smile.

I'm so glad you're filled with inspiration too- really exciting, and like I said to someone else here- let's just hope this welling up of inspiration finds its way onto paper rather than drifting off as a haze of hyperactivity (that happens to me fairly regularly!)

Wishing you a very wonderful week. E x

Yep me too, this is really strange ... almost surreal ... I think always ... no I cannot write this ... again ... but truth is truth ... When I went out for camping i was probably the only one who enjoyed rainy days in the tent .... everybody else seemed not to happy about it :)

Oh I guess my creativity turned into the hyper version today ... just started my third novel ... but anyway ... no deadlines ... I enjoy writing on more than one at the same time and switch like I feel depending on my creative mood :)
Have a most beautiful week <3 <3 <3

Thanks Ravi :) I hope you have a wonderful week. E x

I just love rainy days, especially when there is chili or soup in the making.

Mmmm I could do with some cumin pumpkin soup right now. So creamy and warming. That would set me up for the day :)

Have a wonderful week x
