Work trip to Lebedyn - Swans, Old fire Tower and Lina Kostenko. One hour in the town

When you have no time for sightseeing, and just noticed something interesting along the way.

## Swans

They are a symbol of Lebedyn, a small town in my Sumy region.
1654 is the date the town was founded.

Swans will be "lebedi" in Ukrainian. So the name of the town can be translated as "town of swans".

I noticed this sculpture in a local park. It is right behing a building called Gostiny Dvir, that serves as a market place here. By the way, this park with its trees and crossed pedestrian paths looks like a green envelope on a Google map:-))) It must be lovely and picturesque place in summer.

## Buildings

Nice national style mosaic on a building nearby. Wheat, Cossacks and wreaths of flowers - it's all about Ukraine!

It was in February, that's why there is so much snow around.

There are many small private houses, including wooden ones, in Lebedyn.
One of such houses, but slightly affected by time and weather conditions:

Now we can see from what and how houses were built before bricks and concrete became widely used.

This house has a small shop on the ground floor. I was surprised to see that advertisers even managed to stick their banner to this old wall. Crazy guys!

## Old Fire Tower

Walking down the street I stumbled upon the most famous building of Lebedyn, the Fire Department with a high tower:

At the beginning of 20th century, it served as a Town Hall, but was adapted for the Fire Department under Soviet.
Really nice looking building.

##Lina Kostenko

And the last thing I noticed in Lebedyn was their specific street art.

I have no idea what the modern Ukrainian poet and writer Lina Kostenko has to do with the town of Lebedyn ... but I found a lot of her poems and quotes on the concrete fences here and there.

This one is my favorite:
...the worst is not that everything might be changed but that everything might stay the same…

I found it next to the portrait of Lina Kostenko on my way to the ATB supermarket, but had no time to make a shot:(
