COLOR CORRECTION IS YOUR FRIEND!
There are many professional photographers, amateur photographers and even mobile photographers. There are also so many original and amazing photos on steemit.
Many of those pictures are from amateurs photographers or people making photos on mobile phone and those people don't know that their photos could be even better just with a few additions. Color correction could make their photos really shiny and just better overall. The differences are massive and even if you are not using some professional software like photoshop, those little tweaks that I am talking about can do every free image editor or image viewer.
I will be using free image viewer called IrfanView - http://www.irfanview.com. I have chosen free image viewer to let you know that even you can do this.
After you open your image in IrfanView you have to look for two settings.
It took less than 2 minutes and do you see how big difference just a few additions make? If you think you added too much contrast, you can revert it and try with less. And you used free image viewer! Is your photo too dark? Just add some gamma correction!

You can do this to every photo. What is important is not to overdue it as that will destroy the image. Sometimes you don't even have to add contrast to the image and one click on the sharpen button is enough. Contrast higher than 70 is probably too much and will destroy the effect of the image. The point is to make the photo more alive.
If you are more experienced, you can also add vignette and other color correction features that can enhance your photos.
I made those photos when I went to the car service for a tire change. Those are typical photos of every day. See how they changed just by little bit of enhance.
