Creating your own Bitshares Wallet Account.

in #tutorial7 years ago (edited)

This tutorial is part of my project for the new users that I will manage to invite in the Bitshares Network.

This tutorial includes registering, backing up, and restoring your wallet using your back up.

Before we start I would like to thanks all my supporters especially @tt-dogg and @bitshares76. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This will help me improve more and continue my journey in helping my fellow Filipinos.

Registering your own Bitshares DEX account using your browser.

To register your own Bitshares Wallet click this LINK. It will take you to Bitshares.org wallet registration form. From there click ADVANCED.

Untitled.png

It will show you another form this time with password. Choose your desire username. It must contain a -. For ex. nematology-bts3.

Enter your password. Remember to write it down your username and password in case that you might forget it. If everything is correct we can now proceed to the next step. Click the button CREAT ACCOUNT.

untitled2.png

Usually it will not proceed to your account. If it's taking too long, check if the lock symbol in the upper right corner is unlocked. If it's unlocked, congratulations your registration is complete. Just hit F5 or refresh the page to see your account.

I don't know if this happens to everyone but I hope they fix this problem. As some users might get irritated registering their account.

Once your account is visible. I suggest that you back up your account and save your backup in a safe storage like removable drives. Ex. Flash drives, External HDD, Floppy if you still have some. SD storage etc. Click the encircled link in the bottom right of the page.

Click CREAT BACKUP NOW.

Click DOWNLOAD.

Remember to back this up in an external storage for security purpose. The file will be named bts_default_20171003_20171116.bin. The numbers in the backup is the date it was created. For security measures you need to back up your wallet twice a month.

Once you are done backing it up we can now proceed by depositing our assets in your wallet.

HOW TO RESTORE YOUR WALLET USING YOUR BACK UP.

We will do this by using the Bitshares Light-Client Wallet that is available in the Bitshares.org to save us the trouble in opening the download page I will give click this LINK.

Select the appropriate installer based on your OS(Operating System) I'm using windows 10 so in this tutorial I will guide you using Windows 10. I think the difference in installation isn't that far. For Windows XP or lower users. I suggest that you use a computer with windows 7 or higher.

untitled6.png

Install the 'Bitshares Setup' once it is downloaded.

Click run and it will install automatically.

untitled7.png

When the installation is done the Bitshares client will automatically open. You will have to click the mini gear icon located at the upper right corner of the client.

untitled8.png

A drop down list will show. and click SETTINGS

It will take you to the SETTINGS panel. From there select 'Restore/Import', then click choose file.

untitled9.png

A window will pop up. From there go to the path where you backed up your bitshares wallet back up, then select it.

If the file you selected is a proper back up file, it will now ask you to enter your account wallet password. After inputting your password, click submit. Now we are all done! You have successfully restored your wallet using your back up.

Excellent post, followed!

Thank you so much for the upvote @johnsmith and thanks for the follow.

I agree with you

Here is what I get trying to register from my computer:

Failed to sync with the API server

Please verify that your computer clock is correct.

Once you've synchronized your clock, please refresh this page.

If your clock is already correct, the API server you're using could be out of sync. In that case, please try a different server from the list below.

From another computer it seemed to be fine, but I have my computer and not another.

Am I a near victim of a scam, or is this true:

I need help with BTS on BlockTrades, please! I have 68 BTS I acquired by making trades on BlockTrades with Steem and others. I have a separate Bitshares wallet I just set up, too, but balance = 0. I cannot trade, transfer, or do anything with my BTS. I thought BlockTrades was my BTS wallet, but I don't understand how to convert my BTS to anything else, or how to put BTS in my BTS wallet from BlockTrades. My BTS are essentially held hostage on BlockTrades. How do I get my BTS exchanged for Steem (or anything), or how do I deposit my BlockTrades BTS into my other wallet? It's very confusing and I've tried tech support from both BlockTrades and Bitshares.
