Christopher Steele, the Man Behind the Trump Dossier

in #trump6 years ago

The case of the poisoning of the Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter could have a surprising connection with the supposed " Russian plot " that is being investigated around the campaign of the 2016 elections that brought Donald Trump to the White House.

The newspaper "The Telegraph" points as a possible motive for the assassination attempt a close link between Sergei Skripal and Christopher Steele , the former MI6 who compiled a dossier detailing the alleged relationship between Trump and the Kremlin .

Steele worked for the British espionage service, under a diplomatic facade in Russia and Paris, as well as at the Foreign Office in London.

After leaving MI6, he provided the FBI with information about corruption in FIFA, which would have given credence to his reports about Trump's ties with Russia, according to US officials.

Steele would have prepared a document stating that the Kremlin was related to the election campaign of the current US president and that the Russian secret services have sensitive material about the president-elect that could be used against him.

Meanwhile, the investigators of the London Police Anti-Terrorist Unit are working to discover the origin of the nervous agent used to try to assassinate the Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia in the British town of Salisbury.

Both were found unconscious last Sunday and remain hospitalized in serious condition. A police officer who came to help them is also affected.

Neither sarin nor VX gas: an even stranger substance

One source has assured BBC News that the chemical used is probably stranger than sarin gas or VX , two of the nerve agents that have been targeted in the media as possible substances. Although the police claim to have identified the nerve agent, has not wanted to reveal it for now.

Sarin gas has been used in Syria and in an attack on the Tokyo subway in 1995, while the VX is the product with which last year ended the life of Kim Jong-nam, stepbrother of the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un .

The Minister of the Interior, Amber Rudd , is expected to offer a statement in the House of Commons. The own Rudd has assured to a program of the ITV chain that the affected agent is very serious, but is speaking, reason why it is considered "optimistic".

The anti-terrorist police, which is leading the investigation, has announced that it will also examine the death in 2012 of Russian informer Alexander Perepilichny , who died in mysterious circumstances. His case will be reopened, which initially pointed to death by natural causes, after having found a deadly chemical in his stomach.
