RE: Cover Story NEW Comics 10/17/18

in #trending6 years ago

Why did you switch away from the @trendingpop account already?

I’m happy to see your site setting up a channel on Steem, but as I mentioned in your first @trendingpop post, I’d love to see a Steem link directly on the site or other verified social media. I could have easily missed it, so please feel free to drop a link if you mentioned Steem in the past. There’s always a worry someone’s just copy pasting someone else’s content to try & earn Steem! And the two accounts has me a little more nervous now.

Best wishes, I look forward to new comic content on Steem! And verified ID will definitely get upvotes from me!

Hi bryan-imhoff. Thank you so much for reaching out. I had a HUGE problem uploading ANY video onto dtube to the previous account @trendingpop. It allowed me to upload 2 videos and then nothing after that. Error message after error message. 3 weeks like that. I couldn't deal. I changed formats and everything, nothing worked. So, I opened a new account and started from scratch and "luckily", knock on wood, I've been able to upload videos with no problem.
So, if you do not mind, can you explain what you mean exactly about "seeing a Steem link directly on the site or other verified social media..." I want to LEARN and do everything right so that I can move this in the right direction. I AM INDEED the original owner and content provider of Trending Pop Culture (www.trendingpopculture.com) . Also, one more thing, so sorry to ask so much, Can I cancel the trendingpop account? I do not want that to exist because like you stated, it will confuse people and that's the last thing I want to do.
Thanks for your time, I hope we can follow each other and be friends.
Jay

No worries Jay, thanks for the response! The comics community here is small but friendly with a couple vets like myself and @cryplectibles who have been here 2+ years, so don't hesitate to ask any questions you need. Steem can certainly have a steep learning curve at first, but it's worth it in my own opinion!

Thanks for the explanation. I have to say, I doubt the difficulties you experienced has anything to do with the old account at all. dTube can be unreliable at times, it's built on a newer decentralized file storage technology called IPFS, and I know that sometimes the servers get overloaded. Plus, the timeframe during which you were experiencing a lot of issues coincides quite nicely with some recent major upgrades and changes to the Steem blockchain technology itself, which left a lot of smaller accounts struggling to transact for a little while. Fingers crossed you don't experience too many more issues, but I wouldn't count on it! It's all a part of being on the "bleeding edge!"

There's no way to delete accounts. Everything put on the blockchain is permanent! So be aware of that in everything you share & post! I would simply choose whichever name you like best and run with it. (Again assuming the problems you encountered had nothing to do with the old account at all.) Then simply make a post on the secondary account directing folks to follow you at the primary account, maybe change the account tagline at the top of the page to direct people similarly, and just let the old account go dormant.

And lastly, sorry for being such a suspicious creature! When there's a bit of money involved, we've had issues with plagiarists and ID thieves in the past and I could totally see someone swiping your content just to upload it here for a few votes! Basically, the best way to prove that you are the owner of Trending Pop Culture is just to link to your Steem profile from somewhere on the site, or perhaps make a Facebook post or Tweet. (We love the publicity too!) After all, anyone can make a profile linking back to any site... but only the owner of the site could possibly link back to the profile thereby acknowledging they know it exists and control it.

Steem is really an amazing technology and tool. Again, let me know if you have any questions. I could totally see integrating Steem to bring your readers along and allow them to benefit from the experience as well. There are tools like SteemPress which allow you to crosspost directly from your WordPress, and FinallyComments which would allow you to embed Steem comment sections directly on your site if you wanted.

For instance here's an old post of mine that I actually wrote on my own site here. It cross posted to Steem with SteemPress, and then I used FinallyComments to embed the comment widget from that post, so comments mirror between the two locations. You can login to Steem from my site, comment, upvote, etc. It's really amazing! I could totally see it working for you and your readership, and help bring a bunch more comic fans on Steem.

Take care and thanks again for clearing up the issue!

Hello trendingpopcult!

.....And now it's starting to happen again. My video's will not upload. This is very frustrating....

Addendum to my previous reply... here's a tool that can even help automate the process of adding your YouTube content to your Steem feed, along with a lot of other social media. I'm with you that I'd prefer to use dTube or a Steem based video solution directly, but if they're just not up to par quite yet, this is a good bridge at least.

I did everything regarding getting on board with this. I hope it works. I noticed It only gave ONE option to connect a particular social media though. It asked me to CHOOSE ONE (between YouTube, Instagram and Twitter). I chose YouTube.

Oh, and i REALLY appreciate this help and you taking the time out here. You're a good dude.

Hang in there! Try to bear with it. I know when some folks experience issues like that they do still stick to their more traditional media for now, simply embedding their YouTube upload into a Steem post, possibly with a little added text commentary to spruce it up a bit. I have no doubt it will grow more reliable in time. I don't do much video content, but I know I've always had trouble uploading to dTube using Safari... I think Firefox may have given me the best results normally. Just a minor suggestion to try other browsers that you may have already tried!

I was unaware of the other account or never checked with the website to verify anything, thanks for this comment!
