Travel Tip: Kokorin Castle, majestic medieval castle just outside of Prague

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
Today, I will take you to another spectacular Czech castle, the legendary Castle of Kokorin.

Located outside of the town of Melnik, just some 40 km (25 mi) north of Prague, the Kokorin Castle is a large stone castle built as early as in the 1320s.
Once one of the most important castles in the area, the Kokorin Castle was badly damaged during the Hussite Wars (1419 - 1436) and it was further deteriorating since then but before it became a total ruin, a wealthy Prague businessman Vaclav Spacek bought the castle in 1894 and he funded an extensive reconstruction of it.

Perched on a hill surrounded by picturesque nature, unique limestone formations and numerous lakes, the Kokorin Castle has soon become one of the most visited and photographed Czech castles. Since 2001, it has been also listed as the National Cultural Landmark.
The castle is open to public on weekends from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. The entrance fee starts at just 30 CZK (1EUR/USD) per person.

Another great place in the vicinity of Prague.It is surrounded by beautiful forest all around.Sure the visitors will be rewarded by a nice hike to the castle.
Oh absolutely and the entrance of 30 CZK is almost nothing for such a remarkable castle.

I am a big fan of the people who restore historical landmarks. For me its like that they are restoring history. More accurate the Restoration is the more that represents their dedication to preserve the culture.

It would have been a great treat to some really old paintings of the castle to compare it to the restored version. But sadly I couldn't locate pictures of any such paintings. I also found that the restoration was not allowed in the castle until 20th century, so lets not judge our ancestors. They did the best they could :-)

Very beautiful Kokorin Castle, its interesting history and really picturesque nature around.
It's good that there are people like Vaclav Spacek who can be said to have saved this castle from ruin.
And now everyone who wants tourists and all who are interested in history can visit the castle and enjoy the beauty of the Kokorin Castle.
