A Pedestrian Street in Moscow with Over 500 Years of Existence

Here's my photo for an entry in the #TravelPhotoContest by @lightcaptured.

This shot was taken in Moscow, near the hotel where I was staying. After walking around the city I usually ended up returning to the hotel by this street. I always prefer to walk on pedestrian streets, when they exist... and Moscow has a few of them! That was nice to see.

This one is called Arbat Street (Улица Арбат) and it's quite long, with about one kilometer. It's located in the historical centre of Moscow, in the Arbat district. It has survived since at least the 15th century, which makes it one of the oldest streets of Moscow.

There are a lot of interesting buildings, some sculptures and even some street art.

A common sight while I was there were the various street vendors, selling everything from souvenirs to used books. I enjoyed it a lot, it was almost like a daily market. Really cool.

It's so pleasant to walk around without the noise of vehicles. Why can't we ban cars from every city centre...?

Are you always traveling?

I wish. I try to travel once or twice a year. Unfortunately it's not possible to do much more than that... One needs to work, to earn money to afford travelling. But working limits the amount of time available for travelling, too. :-/

The best work is travel.

The street photo made my day!

Very nice photo!

What a beautiful walk-ways... by the way you should make plan to visit Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will think about it once the political scene in Ukraine calms down a little.
