BACKPACKING IN QOM - RELIGIOUS CENTER OF IRAN (TRAVEL VIDEO)

in #traveling7 years ago (edited)

Qom is Iran's religious center and the eighth largest city (around 1,201,000 people).
I can say one thing about Qom. Maybe it's the religious center, but it is definitely not the touristic center. The only foreigner I've seen in Qom was my girlfriend @Kamile. :DDD This time I will explain how we got there after last events in Northern Iran I've told you about the last time...

Mehdi and his friends in Masuleh, Northern Iran. Some people we met in Masuleh thought that Lithuania is a part of Russia. :DDD

After spending three days in the North of Iran with Mehdi and his friends, we came back to Zanjan, which is famous for having the longest Bazaar in all country. Tehran, the capital city of Iran was waiting for us. Do you remember Shahram from our video about Georgia? We met him again here in Tehran. However, I will skip Tehran for now. Let's go south...

Famous Azadi Tower in Tehran.

After a couple days in Tehran, we took a bus to Kashan (one of the oldest towns in the entire world), where we were supposed to meet our Couchsurfing host. However, he tried to scam us and earn some money. We decided to go to the nearest park, have a rest and then find a hotel.

It was a beautiful sunny day. We were eating our Iranian bread and grapes and thinking about how happy we were. :DDD Lot's of Iranian families were having picnics around us. Suddenly one friendly looking guy came and asked where are we from. As we found out later it was Sayed - Civil Engineering professor from Paris. Sayed was visiting his brothers here in Iran. A few of them lived in Tehran, one of them lived in Qom. Long story short, Sayed and his brother invited us to stay at their place in Qom. Of course, we agreed... :DDD

Sayed and his brother from Tehran. Both of them are engineers.

When we arrived to Qom, we met another brother of Sayed. That guy had a Master degree in English he got in USA many years ago. However, it seemed like he didn't like America at all. He said he was a better man before he went to USA. Well, I'm not sure if it's related. :DDD

He was not in the best mood. We wanted him to be happy so the next day we bought him a duck for about 3USD. :DDD He said we overpaid, but I think he was happy when we gave it to him...

Buying a duck for Sayed's brother at the local market. :DDD

As I said, Qom is not a very touristic city. That's why locals were very interested in us. In those few days, we took a few hundred photos. A very strange thing happened while we were taking photos with locals. One man hit @Kamile accidentally while he went on his motorcycle right next to her. He started apologizing me but didn't say a word to Kamile. Of course, nothing serious happened and it was a complete accident, but my girlfriend got angry and asked him "Am I invisible?" :DDD

Sayed and his brothers were not the only people in Qom we became friends with. On our last day in Qom we met one afghan man and his 8 daughters. They invited us for a cup of tea, but instead of having just one I had 12 of them. :DDD They even taught Kamile how Persian carpets are made. However, that's another story...

Reading this, I just felt like I had a mini-trip to a world I've never known. Thanks for exposing us to the rest of that part of the world. It's often a very different viewpoint than we get in America. The fruits and vegetables heaping in the local market look like they are much fresher than what we get in some of the grocery stores in the US.

Incidentally, was the duck for food? I'm going to assume it was for food. (Talk about FRESH food!!!) But, just in case it was for a pet, that would be good to know too...

Iran was definitely our favorite country so far. :DDD We've been there for a month so I will upload at least a few more videos in future. :D We have the same problem here in Lithuania. People think Muslim countries are like a devil's nest or something. However, most of them are super kind and extremely hospitable. :DDD There is a little bit of good and bad everywhere I think. :DDD
That guy kept a few birds in his back yard, but I think they were more like his friends than potential food. :DDD

Awesome trip, man! I'm definitely want to visit Iran. Thanks for sharing :)
