Night hike in the Allgäu Alps to enjoy the sunrise from the summit - Nachtwanderung in den Allgäuer Alpen um den Sonnenaufgang vom Gipfel zu genießen [EN/DE]

Today I would like to report about an exciting tour to a summit in the Allgäu Alps to view the sunrise. Some weeks ago the mountain fever hit me again. Since I had a hard work week behind me, I wanted to sleep in well on Saturday. Anyone who likes to hike in the mountains knows that sleep late and a beautiful mountain hike usually doesn't match. But without a mountain tour, I did not want to leave this weekend. So I spontaneously decided to go in the night from Saturday to Sunday to the summit of the "Mittag" mountain at Immenstadt in the Allgäu to enjoy the sunrise from up here. Sounds crazy for one or the other, but it's a beautiful experience... Hehehe 🌄 😋

Heute möchte ich euch von einer erlebnisreichen Tour auf einen Gipfel in den Allgäuer Alpen zum Sonnenaufgang berichten. Vor einigen Wochen hat mich wieder mal das Bergfieber gepackt. Da ich eine harte Arbeitswoche hinter mir hatte, wollte ich am Samstag jedoch mal so richtig ausschlafen. Jeder der gerne in den Bergen rumkraxelt weiß, dass ausschlafen und eine schöne Bergtour meistens nicht zusammenpassen. Ganz ohne Bergtour wollte ich dieses Wochenende jedoch auch nicht stehen lassen. Also entschloss ich mich spontan in der Nacht von Samstag auf Sonntag auf den Gipfel des "Mittag" bei Immenstadt im Allgäu zu wandern um von hier oben aus den Sonnenaufgang zu genießen. Klingt für den ein oder anderen vielleicht verrückt, ist aber ein wunderschönes Erlebnis… Hehehe 🌄 😋

After having enjoyed a cozy barbecue on Saturday with my brother and the kids and relaxing in the pool, I drove to Immenstadt in the Allgäu in the evening to sleep in my car for a few more hours before I started the tour. In the summer, I usually always rebuilt my car into a mini-camper just to go spontaneously into the mountains or into nature to spend the night in the car. If you want I can introduce you in a separate report my little adventure automobile, just write me in the comments. 😉 Is nothing special, just a small Combi with bed, equipment, cooker, food, drink just to spontaneously go on a small mini-vacation... 🚗 ⛺

Nachdem ich am Samstag noch gemütlich mit meinem Bruder und den Kids gegrillt und im Pool entspannt hatte, fuhr ich am Abend nach Immenstadt im Allgäu um noch ein paar Stunden im Auto zu schlafen, bevor ich mir der Tour startete. Im Sommer habe ich mein Auto meistens immer zu einem kleinen Mini-Camper umgebaut, um einfach mal spontan in die Berge oder in die Natur zu fahren um im Auto zu nächtigen. Wenn Ihr wollt kann ich euch gerne mal in einem separaten Bericht mein kleines Adventure-Mobil vorstellen, schreibt mir dazu einfach in die Kommentare. 😉 Ist nix besondere, nur ein kleiner Combi mit Bett, Ausrüstung, Kocher, Essen, Trinken um eben spontan in einen kleinen Mini-Urlaub zu fahren… 🚗 ⛺

Now back to the actual tour. After a few hours of sleep in my car, the alarm clock rang at 2:30 am and I slowly made my way to the summit. The starting point was a parking lot of a supermarket in Immenstadt in the Allgäu. When I got out of the car at night I was surprised when I saw the sky in the stars. Despite the many city lights, the Milky Way was visible to the naked eye. At this sight, the morning fatigue was of course quickly forgotten and I knew that this will be an awesome tour. ✨ 🌠

From the parking lot, it goes once over meadows, fields and small forest roads to a chapel, from which the strenuous part began. At night it is recommended to use a GPS for pathfinding and understandably a good headlamp. Since the path was partly not well signposted and you could see only slight traces in the meadows and fields, the GPS track was really helpful. 🚩

Nun aber zurück zur eigentlichen Tour. Nach ein paar Stunden Schlaf im Auto, klingelte der Wecker um 02:30 Uhr und ich machte mich langsam auf dem Weg. Startpunkt war ein Parkplatz eines Supermarkts in Immenstadt im Allgäu. Als ich nachts aus dem Auto stieg war ich überrascht als ich in den Sternen Himmel schaute. Trotz der vielen Stadtlichter, war die Milchstraße mit bloßem Auge zu erkennen. Bei dem Anblick war die morgendliche Müdigkeit natürlich schnell vergessen und ich wusste das wird eine geile Tour. ✨ 🌠

Vom Parkplatz auf ging es erst einmal über Wiesen, Felder und kleine Waldwege zu einer Kapelle, von der aus der anstrengende Part begann. Nachts empfehlt es sich ein GPS für die Wegfindung zu nutzen und verständlicher Weise eine gute Stirnlampe. Da der Weg teilweise nicht gut ausgeschildert war und man auch nur leichte Wegspuren in den Wiesen und Feldern erkennen konnte, war der GPS Track eine echte Hilfe. 🚩

From the chapel, it went steeply through the forest up to the summit. Even if you know that there are no dangerous wild or predatory animals in Germany, it is always an adventurous experience to walk alone in a densely covered forest at night. Hiss and wheeze around you, glowing eyes look at you every few meters, here and there something moves in the bush and the shadow plays of the headlamp make a night walk through the forest partly an exciting and uncanny head cinema. 🎬 😆 But before you get into a mysterious horror scenario in your mind, you should always be aware of what animals we have here in the woods. What I always find very exciting to assign the different sounds to the respective animals. Here and there one hears the barking and from a roebuck or a screaming fox, to warn his conspecifics of a strange, luminous figure like me with a headlamp or to attract a partner in the mating season. 🐭 🐾

Ab der Kapelle ging es dann steil durch den Wald hinauf zum Gipfel. Auch wenn man weiß, dass es in Deutschland eigentlich keine gefährlichen Wild- oder Raubtiere gibt, ist es doch immer wieder ein abenteuerliches Erlebnis, nachts alleine in einem dicht bewachsenen Wald zu laufen. Um einen herum kreucht und fleucht es, glühende Augen schauen einen alle paar Meter an, hier und da bewegt sich etwas im Busch und die Schattenspiele der Stirnlampe machen eine Nachtwanderung durch den Wald teilweise zu einem spannenden und unheimlichen Kopfkino. 🎬 😆 Bevor man sich hier jedoch in ein mysteriöses Horrorszenario im Kopf verrennt, sollte man sich immer klar machen, welche Tiere wir hier in den Wäldern haben. Was ich dann immer sehr spannend finde, die verschiedenen Geräusche den jeweiligen Tieren zuzuordnen. Hier und da hört man das Bellen (Schrecken) von einem Rehbock oder einen fiependen Fuchs, um seine Artgenossen vor einer komisch, leuchtenden Gestalt wie mir mit Stirnlampe zu warnen oder um einen Partner in der Paarungszeit anzulocken (Ranzbellen). 🐭 🐾

Half an hour before sunrise, I arrived at the peak of the "Mittag" mountain. Here I hade a leisurely breakfast and cooked a delicious coffee. At about 05:20 o'clock the red glowing sun on the horizon showed up, a really great experience to watch a sunrise from a summit. Unfortunately, on that day, the horizon was covered by a thick layer of cloud, so that the sun was only briefly visible before disappearing behind the clouds again. Near to the summit of the "Mittag", there is also a cable car station and a serviced alpine hut. Shortly after sunrise the hut host of the Alm woke up and greeted me a little surprised but friendly before he drove his morning tour with the quad to the adjoining huts. 🌄 🏠

Eine gute halbe Stunde vor Sonnenaufgang bin ich dann auch auf dem Gipfel des Mittags angekommen. Hier habe ich mir erst einmal gemütlich ein Frühstück gegönnt und einen leckeren Kaffee gekocht. Um ca. 05:20 Uhr hat sich dann auch die rot leuchtende Sonne an Horizont gezeigt, ein wirklich tolles Erlebnis einen Sonnenaufgang von einem Gipfel zu beobachten. Leider war an diesem Tag der Horizont von einer dicken Wolkenschicht bedeckt, sodass die Sonne nur kurz zu sehen war, bevor sie wieder hinter den Wolken verschwand. Neben dem Gipfel des Mittags gibt es auch eine Seilbahnstation und eine bewirtschaftete Alm. Kurz nach Sonnenaufgang erwachte dann auch der Hüttenwirt der Alm und begrüßte mich etwas überrascht aber freundlich bevor er seine morgendliche Tour mit dem Quad zu den anliegenden Almen fuhr. 🌄 🏠

After about 2 hours on the summit watching the sunrise and took pictures, it went on to the next destination of my tour. The Bärenköpfle, another small summit nearby. The name "Bärenköpfle" reminds us that brown bears used to be native to the Allgäu Alps. Here one of the last brown bears in the Immenstädter area is said to have been shot in 1746, which gave the small summit its name. Here was also a small plaque, built by the biologist Tanja König, which is to remember the brown bears in Germany and "Bruno". 🐻

Here I would like to quote a few sentences from it:

"The brown bear enjoys the highest legal protection status in Germany. The immigration of Bruno to Germany in the early summer of 2006 was a great sensation in terms of nature conservation and wildlife biology. The fact that the brown bear Bruno could not even be protected by the highest legal protection status in Germany and was shot even before the issuing of a controversial exemption shows that in this case the human being the problem rather than the bear. In contrast to other European countries where the brown bear has never been eradicated, we probably only need to learn to live with the brown bear again."

Nachdem ich ca. 2 Stunden auf den Gipfel den Sonnenaufgang beobachtete und fotografierte, ging es weiter zum nächsten Ziel meiner Tour. Dem Bärenköpfle, einem weiteren kleinen Gipfel in der Nähe. Der Name „Bärenköpfle“ erinnert daran, das Braunbären früher auch in den Allgäuer Alpen heimisch waren. Hier soll im Jahr 1746 einer der letzten Braunbären im Immenstädter Raum erschossen worden sein, wodurch der kleine Gipfel seinen Namen erhielt. Hier wurde auch eine kleine Gedenktafel von der Diplom Biologin Tanja König errichtet, die an die Braunbären in Deutschland und an "Bruno" erinnern soll. 🐻

Hier möchte ich euch gerne ein paar Sätze daraus zitieren:

„Der Braunbär genießt in Deutschland den höchsten gesetzlichen Schutzstatus. Die Einwanderung von Bruno nach Deutschland im Frühsommer 2006 war in naturschutzfachlicher und wildbiologischer Hinsicht eine großartige Sensation. Dass der Braunbär Bruno nicht einmal durch den höchsten gesetzlichen Schutzstatus in Deutschland geschützt werden konnte und sogar noch vor der Erteilung einer umstrittenen Ausnahmegenehmigung erschossen wurde zeigt, dass in dieser Sache eher der Mensch und weniger der Bär das Problem ist. Im Gegensatz zu anderen europäischen Ländern, in denen der Braunbär nie ausgerottet war, müssen wir wohl erst wieder lernen, mit dem Braunbär zu leben.“

Since I was a little bit tired after this short night and my hay fever was also quite annoying this morning, I made my way from the Bärenköpfle slowly towards Immenstadt in the Allgäu. In the vicinity of the Sennalpe Oberberg, I discovered a nice tree house, which was probably built by the children of the alpine hut. On the way back to the valley, I opted for the simple, partially paved path, past various alpine huts and the middle station of the cable car. From here it then went over a not very often used and overgrown trail down to the starting point of my hike. 👣

Da ich nach dieser Kurzen Nacht etwas müde war und mich mein Heuschnupfen an diesem Morgen auch ziemlich plagte, machte ich mich nach dem Bärenköpfle langsam auf den Weg Richtung Immenstadt im Allgäu. In der Nähe der Sennalpe Oberberg entdeckte ich noch ein cooles Baumhaus, das vermutlich von den Kindern der Alm gebaut wurde. Beim Rückweg zum Tal entschied ich mich für den einfachen, teilweise geteerten Weg, vorbei an verschiedenen Almen und der Mittelstation der Seilbahn. Von hier aus ging es dann über einen nicht sehr häufig genutzten und zugewachsenen Wanderweg hinunter zum Startpunkt meiner Wanderung. 👣

A really great hike and an absolutely wonderful experience to enjoy the sunrise from a summit in the Allgäu Alps. Even though the clouds did not quite play, the ascent into the night was definitely worth it. 😊

Eine wirklich tolle Wanderung und ein absolut schönes Erlebnis einen Sonnenaufgang von einem Gipfel in den Allgäuer Alpen zu erleben. Auch wenn die Wolken nicht ganz mitgespielt haben, hat sich der Aufstieg in den Nacht auf jeden Fall gelohnt. 😊
