A Trip on the Gakunan Electric Train

in #travelfeed5 years ago

On Sunday we took a trip by train to Fuji City.
In Fuji there's a very small railway line called the Gakunan electric train. In Fuji also there are many paper mills, the water runs down from Mt. Fuji to various places including Fuji City where the pulp is made and the town is also near the sea, so its the center for paper making. This is the reason that the train line was set up, although, now its used mainly for passengers.
Its such a small line, for Fuji City only and runs only 9 km from the JR station of Yoshiwara to the really small station at the other end of the line called Gakunan Eno station.
I found some information about things to see in Fuji which incorporated travelling around on the train line. They have an all day sightseeing ticket for 700 yen. The things to see in Fuji are not spectacular, the actual train line itself was more interesting I thought and I'm not even a train enthusiast.
Around Yoshiwara station are a few small shrines, a pretty big one and a lookout where you can see Mt. Fuji over the harbour, but we only saw cloud, nice though and very quiet.

After this walk we took the train to Hon-Yoshiwara Station, where theres a decent shopping arcade, because we were hungry and were looking for somewhere to eat lunch. Everywhere was closed as it was Sunday and a typhoon was coming, but we found an Okonimiyaki place open which was delicious and then headed back to the station and took the train to the end of the line.

The station is Yoshiwara had lots of souvenirs of the railway line. Lots!

There was a park at Eno which was pretty boring so we got back on the train as it was starting to rain and headed for Gakunan-Fujioka station. walking up into the hills we came across a few more shrines and a bamboo park where there was a local festival., then we walked back down to Hina station where the rain had really begun to pour down.

We then rode the train back to Eno to try and see the view at night when the train goes through one of the old paper factories, but the weather was horrible, so you couldn't see a thing. At Eno, we went back to Yoshiwara station again.

It was a really pleasant day. Nothing spectacular, but a nice walk around quiet areas of Fuji and a very nice little train line.
