Travel to Vienna, Austria. Part 1. Explore the city - The Hundertwasserhaus

in #travel7 years ago

Hello, Steemit community! Welcome to Vienna - the capital of former Austro-Hungarian Empire, a true embodiment of European traditions, the birthplace of great musicians and so on and on and on. I begin to describe my trip to Vienna and share a lot of photos with you, guys.

My first stop was The Hundertwasserhaus located at Kegelgasse 36-38, 1030, Vienna, Austria. Sorry, but I have no idea how to put Google Map here...

Ok, what is The Hundertwasserhaus?

Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) is an Austrian architect, well-known for his approach to the interesting construction of houses. His ideal home is a safe cozy hole, which is covered by grass on top, but a hole with a lot of window-eyes.

He embodied his idea and built an apartment house in Vienna. This house is called The Hundertwasserhaus.

It is difficult to photograph it because the streets are narrow and there are a lot of cars around.

Hundertwasser believed that people shouldn't live in the same houses-boxes: people feel sad because of it.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to get inside the house. It's not a museum, people live there.

The whole house is planted with greenery. Hundertwasser considered this house is the peak of his talents, and even dedicated to him a laudatory poem. The architect believed that mankind destroys nature and it is necessary to fill the destroyed. That's why trees, bushes, flowers, and grass grow everywhere: on the roof, terraces, recesses, balconies, and walls. Hundertwasser realized his innovative idea of tenant trees with such an original approach. In accordance with it, green plantations pay apartment tenants rent by giving them coolness, purifying the air from exhaust gases and simply pleasing the eye.

This house reminds me the hobbit village - The Shire. It is all the more surprising to see such a bright building in the center of the stiff Vienna.

At the end, I want to tell you an interesting fact about Friedensreich Hundertwasser. He always wore socks of different colors. If anybody asked him why, Hundertwasser asked a counter question, no less reasonable: "Why do you wear the same?".
