Lost in Time - Part 1

Hi Steemians! I am so excited to share Part 1 of my new project with you all! As I mentioned in the introduction post it is a project of re-discovering lost photographs on film slides and sharing them with the World! I have been given a large collection of slides that would have just gone in the bin from family and I just couldn't bare the thought of someone's memories just being thrown away. That's where I came up with the idea of this project so I hope you enjoy these amazing photographs that would otherwise have been "lost in time"!

Pilatus

The first collection of slides that I have managed to scan and save onto digital are from a trip our old relatives made to Switzerland in 1988 (before we were even born!). Luckily they have labelled all the slides perfectly so we can see exactly where they were and what they saw! Some of the sights are just breathtaking! These first slides are from the trip they made up the Pilatus mountain near Lucerne in Switzerland. Composed of 3 peaks the Pilatus mountain's highest peak is 2,128 m and is reached by the World's steepest cog wheel railway! Which it looks like they want on! Let's start the journey here!

The views must have been breathtaking! I am not keen on heights at all so looking at these photos makes me feel a little ill!!

The flowers they found were so pretty as well! The blue one if a blue gentian.

Reaching the top! The views are stunning, almost like you are looking across over the clouds! Here there are views of the Hotel and Restaurant at the top of the cog railway, how amazing would it be to stay in this hotel and wake up to these views in the morning! With views of the peak Esel in the background.

Jungfrau

This next little selection is from their trip up the Jungfrau mountain near Bern, clearly they liked going up mountains, and I can totally see why! In 1912 the Jungfrau railway opened which goes up the mountain and into the Jungfrau tunnel THROUGH the mountain too! It is the highest railway in Europe at 3,454m and is one of Switzerland's most visited tourist attractions!

Here you can see where the train goes into the tunnel! Amazing!

The views from the top of Jungfrau are just amazing, those snowy mountains and glaciers are just so beautiful! It really makes me want to go and see it for myself!

Exploring Lucerne

I loved these photographs of Lucerne, I have always wanted to go to Switzerland and it's amazing to discover these photographs and kind of explore it through them! One of my favourites sites they saw was the Lucerne Chapel Bridge, known in Switzerland as Kapellbrücke. It is unique as it contains a number of paintings dating back to the 17th century. It is one of the best examples of a surviving truss bridge and a great tourist attraction! They clearly really loved it as they took a lot of photographs and came back at night to get an evening shot too!

Below are views of the Jesuit Church which looks beautiful! It was built in 1667 and was the first large baroque church built in the Alps. I loved how there are some little boats in the frame, they obviously had a really good eye for composition!

Lucerne Boat Ride

After venturing the mountains they then went for a boat ride. It looked very busy but the views looked so pretty with all the Swiss houses up the mountains and the lovely churches and unusual buildings that they saw along the way!

I hope you have enjoyed this trip to Switzerland! It's such a shame to think that if I hadn't of taken these slides they would have just gone in the bin! I still have a lot to go through and am excited to see where they went next and share with you all!

These photos are absolutely stunning!! Keep up the good posts , I love seeing photography with stories!

Thank you, yes I can't wait to discover more stories and adventures through these slides!

What a wonderful project! And so nice of them to label them all!
I have been thinking of doing something similar with my Grandfather's slides and writings as he traveled and did scuba diving all over the world!
These shots are great! The composition is beautiful- they obviously knew what they were doing! Good photography genes!! Cheers!

Thank you! Yes so amazing that they labelled them all, must have taken so long, I think we take for granted how hard it was to catalogue images back then! And your right the composition on some of these is just awesome! Oh you definitely should do that, that sounds amazing !! :)

Woow these are so cool! Are any of your relatives photographers because I see some very nice compositions?

Thank you!! Well they are my husbands (@skiesandsports) relatives and he is also a photographer so at least we know where he gets his talent from I guess!

Cool, I always like looking at old pictures! Especially when you don't know the exact background story... It leaves room for the imagination!

Did you touch up the scans before uploading?

Yes I have always loved old photographs too so I am so excited that I know have a project that I can work on that involves them! When I scanned them in I just slightly adjusted the colours as some of the films were obviously odd colours! There was one roll that was really blue so I tried to bring the colours back to a more normal tone, I don't want to edit them too much though as they will loose their charm!

That's good that you don't edit them too much! I really love those colors in old color pictures :) Thanks again, lloking forward to the next batch :)

Yeah me too! All the grain as well I will leave! Thank you, can't wait to post about it either!

Amazing... good landscape mount @vtravels

This is seriously one of the coolest things I have seen. I have a deep love for old photography; I absolutely love the look and feel of film photos. I definitely plan on keeping up with this project!

Thanks for sharing :-)

Thank you!! That's amazing, thank you for much for supporting this project! It really is so fun and I don't know what I am going to discover next, lots of travels to go on!

These are incredible photos! And to think they are 30 years old! We had planned to go to Jungfraujoch on our recent trip to Switzerland but the weather changed our mind! Haha.

And thanks for rubbing it in... "1988 (before we were even born)"... You realise I was turning 3!!! Haha.

I can't wait to see more, this is a really awesome project and a great idea!

Thanks Dom! haha yeah sorry had to get that in there though! Shame you didn't manage to get there, but you saw a lot when you were there still! I am really excited about this project too, it's amazing to discover all these slides and find out where they were!

Wow your relatives are/were great photographers! So many nice views and architecture shots.

Yes they certainly were! Amazing aren't they! Just makes me want to visit Switzerland even more, can't wait to discover where else they went!

This is so cool! What an awesome idea.

Thank you! I'm quite excited about it!
