The Famous Hochstrahlbrunnen Fountain in Vienna (Austria)
The last time I was in Vienna I saw this fountain and I was quite disappointed to find it completely empty. This time around, I was lucky enough to see it in its full glory, and on a sunny day, on top of that. An impressive sight!
This is the Hochstrahlbrunnen fountain and it's located in the Schwarzenberg Square (Schwarzenbergplatz), right in the center of Vienna.
Weird name, I know. The square was named after the Palais Schwarzenberg, a nearby palace owned by the Schwarzenberg family.
This fountain is a celebration to the construction of the first water pipeline from the Styrian Alps to Vienna in 1873, which was truly important for the growth of the city. Without it, Vienna would be a much smaller city today...
It just takes a gentle breeze for the water to splash over the people walking by... and on a hot day, such as it was, that's a very refreshing feeling!
Here's a small animation on a regular weekday, in this place which tourists never miss.
Here's a final shot, with no people in front of it. It's not as interesting without the people, though, is it?
