"Disgusting PATTAYA" - Part 1 [EN/DE]

Hello Steemians! If you follow my articles a bit, you might have already noticed that I like to explore prejudiced places and get a picture of them myself. Today I would like to tell you my impressions of such a place. Hardly any other Southeast Asian city has such a bad reputation as Pattaya. The name is known by almost everyone and it immediately evokes associations. It's the place where old, western men buy cheap sex with young, pretty Thai girls. Well, I can only add that this cliché is absolutely true, the offer for sex holidaymakers is really overwhelming and probably not comparable to any other place. But is this city really only about the business of love? Already during my first trip to Thailand in 2016 I noticed that the reputation of the city in Thailand itself is a bit different. It is seen by the Thai people much more as a huge fairground that offers fun and amusement of all kinds. Even families spend their holidays there. I can tell you that the city and its surroundings have surprised me very positively, and in some cases even impressed me! If you don't already suspect, the title of this post is pure sarcasm, Pattaya is anything but disgusting! In the first part of my reports I would like to show you the quite unknown main attraction of the city - an incredibly beautiful temple made entirely of wood, known as "The Sanctuary of Truth"!

Hallo Steemianer! Wer meine Artikel ein bisschen mitverfolgt, hat sicher schon gemerkt, dass ich es sehr mag, vorurteilsbelastete Orte zu erkunden und mir selbst ein Bild davon zu machen. Heute möchte ich euch meine Eindrücke von genauso einem Ort berichten. Wohl kaum eine andere südostasiatische Stadt hat so einen schlechten Ruf wie Pattaya. Der Name ist wohl fast jedem ein Begriff der sofort Assoziationen weckt. Das ist doch der Ort an dem sich alte, westliche Männer günstigen Sex mit jungen, hübschen Thaigirls kaufen. Tja, dem kann ich nur hinzufügen, dass dieses Klischee absolut der Wahrheit entspricht, das Angebot für Sex-Urlauber ist wirklich erschlagend und wohl mit kaum einen anderen Ort vergleichbar. Geht es in dieser Stadt aber tatsächlich nur um das Geschäft mit der Liebe? Schon bei meinem ersten Besuch in Thailand 2016 fiel mir auf, dass der Ruf der Stadt in Thailand selbst etwas anders ist. Sie wird bei den Thais viel mehr als riesiger Rummelplatz gesehen, in dem es um Spaß und Vergnügen jeglicher Art geht. Hier wird sogar Familienurlaub gemacht. Um es gleich vorweg zu nehmen, die Stadt und ihre Umgebung haben mich sehr positiv überrascht, teilweise sogar begeistert! Falls ihr es nicht bereits vermutet, der Titel dieses Beitrags ist purer Sarkasmus, Pattaya ist alles andere als ekelhaft! Im ersten Teil meiner Berichterstattung möchte ich euch gleich, die recht unbekannte Hauptsehenswürdigkeit der Stadt zeigen – einen unfassbar schönen Tempel, der komplett aus Holz besteht, bekannt unter dem Namen „The Sanctuary of Truth“

Actually, it is not really a temple at all, because this building does not belong to any religion. The beautiful carvings combine Buddhist, Hindu and other spiritual elements. It is a place of reflection and enlightenment.

Eigentlich handelt es sich gar nicht um einen Tempel, denn dieses Bauwerk ist keiner Religion zugehörig. Die wunderschönen Schnitzereien vereinen buddhistische, hinduistische und andere spirituelle Elemente. Es ist ein Ort der Besinnung und der seelischen und geistigen Erleuchtung.

The temple is located approximately 6 km north of Pattayas city center. The taxi from the center costs about 200-300 THB. The entrance fee is 500 THB, which is a lot for Thai conditions, as an entrance fee for a sight, but believe me, it's worth it!

Der Tempel liegt ca. 6 km nördlich von Pattayas Stadtzentrum. Für das Taxi vom Zentrum bezahlt man ungefähr 200-300 THB. Der Eintrittspreis beträgt 500 THB, was für thailändische Verhältnisse sehr viel ist, als Eintrittsgeld für eine Sehenswürdigkeit. Glaubt mir, es ist es aber mehr als wert!

It is hard to believe how much love for detail has been and is still being worked on here. The building is a unique work of art with a height of 105 metres.

Es ist eigentlich kaum zu glauben, mit welcher Liebe zum Detail hier gearbeitet wurde und noch immer wird. Das Gebäude ist ein einziges, 105 Meter hohes Kunstwerk.

Construction began in 1981 and at least another 10 to 15 years of construction are estimated. So the Sanctuary of Truth is already a landmark, although it has not yet been completed. This reminded me of the famous church "Sagrada Famila" in Barcelona.

Baubeginn war 1981 und es sind noch mindestens weitere 10 bis 15 Jahr Bauzeit veranschlagt. Das Sanctuary of Truth ist also schon jetzt eine Sehenswürdigkeit, obwohl es noch gar nicht fertiggestellt ist. Das erinnerte mich an die berühmte, ebenfalls noch nicht fertiggestellte Kirche „Sagrada Famila“ in Barcelona.

Inside the building there is nothing but silence and admiration - no wonder, the carvings in the interior are just as impressive as the exterior.

Im Inneren des Gebäudes herrscht nichts als Stille und Bewunderung – kein Wunder, die Schnitzereien im Innenraum sind genauso beeindruckend wie die Äußeren.

Directly next to the building is a tree with artificial golden leaves, which can be photographed beautifully.

Direkt neben dem Bauwerk befindet sich ein Baum mit künstlichen, goldenen Blättern, die man wunderbar fotografisch in Szene setzten kann.

In the late afternoon, when the sun is low, the best time has come to take great pictures in the spacious area and the number of visitors decreases the later it gets.

Am späten Nachmittag, wenn die Sonne tief steht, ist die beste Zeit angebrochen, um tolle Aufnahmen in dem weitläufigen Areal zu machen und auch die Anzahl der Besucher reduziert sich, je später es wird.

The final view from the observation deck at sunset. It was very difficult for me to leave this masterpiece of architecture, which has been one of my favorite buildings in the world since I visited it.

Der abschließende Blick von der Aussichtsterrasse bei Sonnenuntergang. Es fiel mir sehr schwer mich von diesem Meisterwerk der Architektur zu trennen, das seit meinem Besuch, eines meiner Lieblingsgebäude weltweit ist.

I hope I could already inspire you in this first part a little bit for a few days in Pattaya, but that was by far not all. In the next part I will tell you why you don't have to go to the South of the country to spend a fantastic beach holiday in Thailand! Stay tuned! ;-)
