☠️ Helmet Cams ☠️

For me helmet cams are an important piece of safety equipment.
In many accidents it's the same old story, with the same old excuse used "Sorry m8 I didn't see you".
Unfortunately though sometimes you will find yourself in an accident where you know your in the right, and it's the other driver at fault but they are screaming black and blue that your the one who is at fault.
As a result of these drivers it can mean your the one footing the bill, and even worse hospital bills.

Helmet cams can really help to prove who is in the right. But apart from that obvious benefit there are other benefits to wearing a helmet cam that you may not be aware of.
Let's look at this a bit further.

Road Rage

Unfortunately drivers now days are more agro than ever. Do one little thing to upset some of these drivers and your in the firing line. Now when it comes to an angry driver in a car a motorcyclist can quite often be targeted.
Tail gating us motorcyclists and even trying to run us off the road.

As a motorcyclist here in South Australia we are legally allowed to travel up the middle of traffic and for good reason, stoopid drivers don't pay attention to the road and when we are stopping at traffic lights or what ever other reason it's always a sketchy time.
I know I speak for a lot of motorbike riders here, we literally have to have eyes on the back of our head. They even teach this to us when we are getting our motorbike license. Always watch your rear view mirrors when stopping.
Now we don't have to.
We can cruise in between cars and not have to worry about an inattentive driver crushing us from not paying attention.

Unfortunately though by cruising between cars or lane splitting as it's technically known as, we can become the target of road rage.
Some drivers will get angry and hurl abuse at you and will usually tailgate really close to you to try and prove god only knows what.
Even worse some drivers will do some really crazy shit, like try and run you off the road.

This is where helmet cams can be really handy, as if these drivers see a helmet cam mounted on your helmet, then they know they're being filmed and usually won't do anything.
It can dramatically change the behavior of other drivers.

Now of course 95% of drivers are great. They will see you coming in their rear view and allow you to pull in front of them, or move as far away from the side of the lane you are splitting to give you more room. They are great and really understanding. Unfortunately though there is a few who follow the vile maxim. All for me and no one else.

Also while lane splitting I have had the odd driver here and there look in their side view mirror, see me coming and swerve into the side of the lane I'm lane splitting on to try and cut me off.
in these cases also the helmet cam is great, as it captures this and if they do knock me off my bike I have the footage of it and can charge the driver with dangerous driving.

Here is a video of some of the shit we have to deal with. Just look at that muppet in the white vw.

Safe Mounting

Now there is another side of the coin when it comes to helmet cams.
When mounting your helmet cam, you should never drill holes in you helmet or do anything which will compromise the structural integrity of the helmet.

You helmet has been designed in a way that it is strong.
If you go and do anything to change that, your life could be on the line in an accident.
For me I just use the go pro hero 4 session, which comes with these curved sticky adhesive mounts. This curve matches the top of my helmet perfectly and is more than enough to hold the camera on my head even at 100 kms per hour.

As a little bit extra you could super glue the mount around the edges for extra piece of mind, but I find these things are pretty much stuck there for good once you do mount it.
The sticky adhesive is pretty much like glue.

So please if your mounting your helmet camera, don't go drilling holes or anything like that.

Helmet Cam Laws

Sometimes laws are completely ridiculous. So for example here in South Australia it's completely legal to use helmet cams as long as you don't do anything to compromise the structural integrity of the helmet.
How ever if you cross the border you may not be able to use a helmet cam.

So my advice is to check your laws for your state or country and be aware of weather it's legal or not to wear a helmet cam.
Also just because it's illegal doesn't mean you will get hassled by cops.
As long as your not carrying on like a pork chop, the cops will most likely leave you be. However if your going around doing burnouts and wheelies, or speeding they are going to pick on you for what ever they can find.

You could also look into some of the other mounting techniques like handle bar mounts, wrist strap mounts, chest mounts and a range of other techniques.

Hi, thank you for contributing to Steemit!

I upvoted and followed you

Wow! I have never heard or seen such thing. Great idea. But it may be bit costly and may not be easily adaptable. Apart from all other advantages we can have a video recording of our journey which is fun.😆😆

Yeah I always take my go pro every where now.
I got mine for $180 bucks, best money ever spent. You can't put a price on safety really ;)

I have to buy one😁😁....it is fun to record your journey

The MT 07 is a great bike I love it :D
