Field of Light - Uluru

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemers, just imagine you are in a field of tulip like flowers 🌷⚘🌷 .. but you aren't in the Netherlands, you are in the middle of the Australian Outback!

Now also imagine, these fields are the size of more than seven football fields and when you are standing in them it is at night...

But can you even see these flowers if it's at night? In this case, yes!.. as these "flowers" are actually colour changing light stems!

The Field of Light is an art installation by Bruce Munro. It features 50,000 flower like light stems, spread across over 49,000 square meters of outback plains.

Making use of all the outback sun, this installation is solar powered and when it finishes up in December 2020, all the materials will be recycled and reused in future installations.

The whole installation weighs 15 tonnes and uses over 380km of optical fibre. It was all brought to Uluru, from London, on 32 Qantas flights.

Walking amongst the coloured lights, whilst taking in all the stars above is a pretty magical experience. Definitely worth a look if you find yourself in the middle of the Australian outback.

Thanks for stopping by ✌

It would be cool to see this just as the sun has set, so you can see Ayres rock in the back ground😊

That would be so cool to see it then!

Omg! I saw the Field of Light in England when Bruce Munro had a residency at Wadderson Manor for three years. The display in Australia looks massive and is so much more dramatic than England!

Oh wow, would love to see some more of his work! Apparently Uluru is his biggest installation to date, def worth a look if you are out this way, it was very cool 🙂
