Two amazing hikes in Kata Tjuta (20 original photos)
As my previous posts indicate, I had a fantastic trip to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park last week. Besides the Uluru base walk, my friends and I did two walks in Kata Tjuta (aka the Olgas, which are comprised of 36 steep sandstone monoliths): the famous Valley of the Winds walk and the lesser known Walpa Gorge walk (Walpa means windy).
We didn't complete the entire Valley of the Winds walk (7.4km return) because my friend's old hiking boots were falling apart, but we walked to the second viewing point, which was a bit of a climb because of the terrain. There were three tour groups that were doing the hike at the same time, so it wasn't as peaceful as I would have liked, but we could still hear the birds. We also saw tadpoles in the clear water along the way.
If you don't have time, I think you can skip the Walpa Gorge walk because it takes about 45 minutes return and the end point was a bit disappointing for me. However my feelings may have been affected by the extreme heat we were walking in that day. Make sure you bring a lot of water! It is recommended that you drink every 15 minutes and have 1 litre of water per hour. Drink water even if you don't feel thirsty! Also take a small scarf or bandana, wet it, and put it around your neck to stay cool.

awsome nature..keep up such a post please

Well from memory Alice Springs can get obscenely hot in summer! When did you go? Beautiful scenery though :)
I was there last week. Average temperature was 38 to 40 degrees.
I've heard of it getting much hotter than that but yeh that's not ideal for hiking XD
Nice photography. It looks like you had a pretty good hike, there. A bit of a barren landscape in some parts, though the colors and rock formations are pretty. Nice work :-)
Thank you. It was actually greener than I was expecting it to be! Very interesting changes in landscape in that area. I will post about my Kings Canyon Rim Walk soon. That was actually my favorite
Makes me want to get back there asap. I love the colours of the rock, especially against the striking blue of the sky. Great photos.
Thanks. It was very beautiful.
I really want to make a fantastic trip, just like you
I hope you can make the trip there.
Yes, please help me let me get there quickly
A wet bandana is a really good idea
Indeed. Very helpful!
