A Stone Pagoda in the Ruined Temple, Bowon-sa

in #travel5 years ago

As passing through the stone flag pole holder, there was the 5 story stone pagoda.

At first glance, I could notice this pagoda was built in Goryeo dynasty after the collapse of Shilla dynasty.
In Shilla dynasty, it seemed that 3 story stone pagoda was prevailed, but 5 story pagoda looked popular in the area of Baekjae dynasty.

In my view, the Seokgatap pagoda, the 3 story pagoda in Bulguk-sa temple, looked like the representative of Shilla dynasty, meanwhile the 5 story pagoda in Jeonglim-sa temple place seemed the representative of Baekjae dynasty.

So the pagoda in Bowon-sa temple place looked like to be influenced from the culture of Baekjae dynasty.
Eventhough more than 500 years had passed after the collapse of Baekjae dynasty, the influence to the culture of Baekjae dynasty seemed not to be perished.

More over in Goryeo dynasty, in my feeling 5 story pagoda was more popular than the 3 story pagoda. It could be explained that the power of Baekjae was more powerful than that of Shilla dynasty in this area at least.

In my opinion, the Artistic beauty of Baekjae dynasty was much more superior to Goryeo dynasty.
In comparing with the pagoda of Baekjae dynasty, the stone pagoda in Bowon-sa temple place was not so balanced.

But the reliefs on the body of the pagoda were much more splendid than the pagoda of Baekjae dynasty.

Anyway. It was a miracle this pagoda was preserved in this ruined temple place.
It was regrettable nobody knew why this large scale temple was destroyed and disappeared suddenly.

Only the stone pagoda was witnessing the presence of the temple in this place.

@slowwalker,
Atleast it's great to see that 5 story pagoda is exist after the temple destroy! The pagoda looks a huge one! So, we can imagine it might be a huge temple that destroyed in that day!
