Vehicle Photography: beautiful oldtimer parked on street in Merida, Mexico

Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!

So far, I have been almost exclusively posting photos from Cuba in the #vehiclephotography contest hosted by @juliank as this country is a true heaven for all car enthusiasts due to all those fancy classic American cars still roaring through the old Cuban streets, however, you can sometimes stumble on a beautiful vintage car in different parts of the world too.

Look what I found, for example, while wandering around the historic center of Merida, the largest city of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.

Here is the same photo in a b&w version. I sometimes find the monochrome fitting these photos of old cars better than the colored version :)

Let me also add a few words about the city of Merida since it is often considered one of the most beautiful cities of the country. Known for having the largest Mayan community of all major Mexican cities, Merida is home to some amazing landmarks dedicated to the ancient Mayan civilization, like the one I showed you in THIS POST.

Nevertheless, the city is also famous for brilliant colonial architecture dating back to centuries ago. During the late 19th century and the early 20th century, the city flourished due to an enormous production of agave and many local businessmen got rich through selling the agave products.

In fact, Merida was even said to have more millionaires than any other city on the planet for some time during this era. It was in this golden age of Merida when numerous large, opulent villas and palaces were built all over the city, such as the one I showed you in THIS POST.

Another thing that this captivating Mexican city is famous for is the abundance of old cute white churches like the one I wrote about in THIS POST.

As you can see, Merida has a lot to offer so if you happen to be around, make sure to stop by for a day or two. It is definitely worth the visit :)
