Vrsar city, my wonderful trip in Croatia!

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Here I am to continue with my story of the trip to Istria in Croatia, today I speak of a place we visited for several evenings because for the occasion there was a medieval festival.

The place is Vrsar or Orsera in Italian.  This city is divided into a municipal settlement located in the village which is accessed through the various climbs that start instead from 'area of the port, full of local and catering activities. When we climbed into the lovely medieval village we were immediately greeted by a nice festive atmosphere and we saw around us many people dressed in medieval clothes. In the central square they had set up a stage where the actors performed in a very funny multi-lingual show.

Paid about ten euros in cunee (the Croatian currency, you know what a mess I made with those coins!) We had available wine at will, both red and white food at will but with little choice or pasta with sauerkraut or .... Guess ?
Sauerkraut pasta and ham!
But I assure you it was a very good sauerkraut pasta!
However, after a couple of glasses of wine and two pasta dishes, we decide to explore the fair, we venture inside the delightful country and discover really enchanting streets.
The village is small but really charming and the numerous lavender benches leave an extremely pleasant smell in the air, a smell that I must say has marked the whole journey.

After the walk, bright and happy, we decided to try a funny game that would have given us once the certificate of famous citizens of Vrsar when the game  was finished.
The game consisted of retracing some old traditions, repeated in appropriate spaces set up in the country, there was a sort of duty which then followed the access to the hygiene section which was very important, as the girl who explained it occupied, because during the Middle Ages the town was hit by various waves of pestilence and disease, so we washed our hands and perfumed them with lavender!

Then it was time to get your hands in the dough and since it was the ancient custom to make bread all together in the main square so we did, kneading our sandwiches after passing a short quiz on cereals to use to make a certain type of bread or else, the baker has put them to cook and once ready we have eaten them, equipped with our new certificate and a nice bottle of Rakia, their delicious honey brandy.
In short, we liked Vrsar and think that it was a completely random choice and that my boyfriend was not even very convinced by the name of the village!
In the end we came back for two nights in a row and it was a lot of fun!
