The underground cable car

in #travelyesterday

When you think of a cable car ride, we always think of something that connects one spot to another midair. But this particular cable car is unique. It's a full underground cable car running between Lake Kurobe and Kurobedaira stops on the way from Ogizawa to Murodo in Japan. This route is called the Alpine route.

Normally the cable car goes over a mountain, but this one goes through the mountain. What an engineering marvel. The main reason to make it like this is to protect it from the rough weather of the mountains. There are avalanches happening regularly in this place and hence to protect the ride this has been made completely underground. With the level of snow in this region an outdoor cable car would be almost impossible to maintain and hence this was made in the 1969. A time where many Countries were still developing their regular train systems.

It's like a secret passage between the lake and the Dam and the highlands. There is no view inside as it's just going through the tunnel, but watching the steep tunnel is a view in itself.

It is one of a kind of an experience. A 5 minutes ride takes you from the base level to the Alpine plateau.

I'm loving the unique perspective on cable car engineering and the thought process behind building this underground marvel in Japan. It's fascinating to learn about the challenges they faced and the creative solutions they implemented. 🚂💡

They are way too advanced, the whole country is fascinating at so many level

El tema es complejo y lo explicaste bastante claro. No es fácil hacer eso.
