The Hague, the city of justice and peace,

Home of the international court of justice. The capital of the royal family, the only large city located right at the North Sea.

I took the metro from Rotterdam straight to The Hague, the station is brand new, here we will go today to discover some of its highlights.

This is the city of royals, ambassadors and statesmen, where many streets are full of the type of houses you also find on the Amsterdam canals.

In this city you can find both great historical streets and buildings, as well as large modern offices and governmental departments

Our first destination is the Binnenhof, the heart of Dutch democracy, where the entire parliament resides and hold all their meetings. It has an inside square which is accessible, there is a lot of openess between the Dutch people and its leaders.

The building complex goes all the way back to the 13th century, so it is of great historical value. It was the dukes of Holland that once set it up as a castle. Right outside next to it there is a fairly large lake.

When we leave the binnenhof I encounter the beautiful Mauritshouse, this is the best place in the area to discover the works of art from the Duth golden century. You will encounter the masterpieces of johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn

After that we cross some nice narrow shopping streets in the core of the city. We end up at the official royal working palace, where the king has his office for business and meetings.
behind the large gates right in front of it is an impressive statue of the first William of Orange on his horse, who is considered the original father of the nation.

The Hague is a city of many faces, the old, the new, the official, the creativity, historical, cultural, cuisine from many other worlds, the fun of shopping.
