Sapporo - the capital of Hokkaido in Winter with a lot of snow
helloooooooo
😄 Welcome to Sapporo...
Sapporo was our next best destination after Hakodate in Hokkaido.
We planned 4 night stay in Sapporo which was a bit long and a mistake for us. No,no, no Hokkaido is a very interesting place if you can travel around different cities which we weren't able to do because of the budget constraints. Otherwise there will be more fun.
So, what did we do in Sapporo?
Once arrival, the first thing we did was randomly walking around the city especially downtown area. We checked shops after shops because we wanted nice food with reasonable price. Actually, that's everyone wants, isn't it? It's a mystery that we want to know the best shop without really trying, right? hahaha
Here you go, our exploration
Sapporo subway station
Sapporo downtown
Sapporo TV tower
sake museum
high quality sake
There is one special place I would like to mention here.
A shop named Gotsubo, it was a small shop run by a Japanese lady. It opens only in the evening, and if you want to sit down and have some drinks together with the seafood bbq, you will need to go there early to queue. Another option is just order from the front and eat standing up.

We also went to Sapporo Maruyama Zoo. We took train to get there, and it was a bit far from the train station, so we had to walk. We were kinda lost on our way after the train station, but there was quite a number of people going the direction as us. So, we assumed that they were on their way to the zoo and followed the crowd. But, turned out they were on their way to the shrines, not the zoo. Luckily, the zoo wasn't that far from there.
right station and right exit
After a long walk in the snow, we finally got to the zoo. It was a small zoo with very small amount of animal. You don't need the whole day to spend there. But, my son liked the place anyway, and he really enjoyed visiting there.
My son really liked the sheep, he wanted to keep on touching their fur, and didn't want to move on to next place and kept saying no 😄.
the sheeps and my son
We were able to convince him to visit to the other animals at last. We told him that other animals would be sad if he didn't visit them. And then we moved on to see other animals 😄😄.
Ponies - first time seen
Artic goose?
wolves
hibernating?
The another good thing was there were a lot of Japanese children in the zoo for excursion trip, and my son got a chance to mingle with them. They were older than him, so they had to idea what my son was trying to say, ha ha.
On the way back, instead of taking the train, we took a bus which was free with our JR PASS. Pretty nice.
Okay, that is pretty much about our trip to Sapporo, Hokkaido, and next is warmer weather in Tokyo. Still very cold though, just without snow like Kyoto.
This blog is a part of my blog series of the Japan trip I took in January, 2019. I've decided to give the title differently this time.
