Dazzling Amsterdam - Westerpark

Hello Steemians! In my 9th blog about Dazzling Amsterdam I want to take you all on a stroll through the Westerpark.

This park was constructed on the terrain of the "Westergasfabriek". The Westergasfabriek was a factory that produced charcoal-gas for the City of Amsterdam. The factory was constructed in 1883 for the British Imperial Continental Gas Association. In constructing it, a lot of detail was given to the architecture of the several building on the terrain:

At the beginning of the 21st century, the terrain was sanatized and transformed into a huge park with both a cultural and a recreational function. The reacreational part of the park is arranged in the English style, like the Vondelpark on which I did an earlier post here. It's a really great place to relax and have a nice bbq with friends.

The cultural side of the park is host to a lot of different businesses: There's a handful of bars and restaurants, artist studio's, a cinema that shows mainly Dutch and Europese movies and television studios. But it also holds sporting fields and a daycare center.

A lot of activities are organized thoughout the year: all sorts of expositions, festivals and concerts can be visited. Once a year it even holds the biggest carnival in the city. If you want to know what's up you can visit http://www.westergasfabriek.nl/en/ .

But my favourite place in the park by far is the "Gashouder". It's an old gas-storage tank that's been refurbished and is now used to host a variety of activities amongst which AWAKENINGS, one of the best techno-parties in the Netherlands! The building holds over 3000 people, so you can imagine the awesomeness!!
