The Mexican Magical City Tour: Real de Catorce y el éxodo dos
A city paved in crystals and my first hitchhiking experience.
These two guys,
Ezequiel and Ovat,
I met in Monterrey, Mexico
through the backpacking Facebook group Mochileras en Mexico ...
They helped me map out my
Mexican tour
then, were so inspired they
kissed their Mommas good-bye
and are now traveling with me.
Follow us as we travel the
Mexican Magical City Tour
in the most unexpected ways.
I made my first Exodus from Dallas, Texas.
These guys are excited for their own Exodus.
It is
Exodus Number 2 (éxodo dos) for me.
This is our pile of stuff we are carrying through Latin America.
Many of my things you saw in my packing list they now are carrying in their packs.
Muchas Gracias dios
These guys are angels!!
I am super grateful to Andreas for opening up his home to me for several nights.
He has been a great connection. Ezequiel connected us.
Since he lived in Houston for a good chunk of his childhood
he speaks great English so has been great in helping me to re-emerge into the language.
All loaded up and walking the great Exodus.
The first stop on the list is
Real de Catorce,
One of Mexico's many Magical Cities.
If you want to know what makes it magical then you will have to
follow along with my posts.
As I discover the answer to this, so will you.
Our second ride to leaving Monterrey was this taxi who drove us to the highway outside of town.
Andreas drove us to a good place to catch the taxi.
Time to stick out the thumbs.
It didn't take long.
Here we are! Ride Numero Uno.
As we say in Texas, "a truckload of Mexicans"...and me.
Our first ride got us really close to our destination but it still took three more rides.
Already Ovat is looking tired.
This is the first time I have ridden in the back of a truck since I was a little girl living in Leesville, Louisiana.
I was no more than 6 years old.
When I climbed into this truck I lost my balance and catapulted myself forward,
smashing the top of my head with a great popping sound.
Fortunately, I am hard headed.
Days later I still have a bump on my head but it never really hurt.
Ezequiel is a bit of the leader in the group,
Ovat being more soft spoken and I just put out what I need then just flow with everything else.
It's the journey not the destination.
It took two more rides to get to
Real de Catorce but by then I was so tired I did not care about photos anymore.
A Rastafarian looking Mexican picked us up in an old beat up truck from basically the middle of nowhere Mexican dessert in the dark.
The last part of this journey takes us through this
tunnel dug literally through the mountain
for about kilometer, mas o menos, a little less than half a mile.
It felt really damp and eerie.
The road was paved with rocks so it was very bumpy.
After descending the tunnel then,
wha-lah!
We are here!!
Real de Catorce
After thanking our final ride and reloading on all our packs
I followed these guys up and down a maze of rocky paved hills,
taking shameless breaks whenever needed.
It was dark so I did not see the beauty until the next day.
The whole village reminded me of some old
Mexican Western movie
or photos I had only ever seen in beautiful glossy
National Geographic magazines.
This photo is the entrance to the cemetery.
My next post will be a photo gallery of this mystical, magical village.
I don't know for certain if the
streets are paved with crystals
but I am certain that I witnessed
the streets glitter and sparkle
from lots of crystal matter IN the streets.
The guys quickly set up a tent with flashlights,
we all ate granola bars then easily slept
without complaint on the hard rocky ground.
As quickly as I possibly can
I will post a beautiful photo gallery of Real de Catorce
and some notes about our adventure there.
We learned why it is considered a Magical City.
My next post will contain a list.

Welcome to my world.
Love it!!! Try the peyote! Did you know that the movie mexican was filmed there?! I loved it! Great magical town.
That's right, I was told about that. I loved that movie. It's easy to see why they chose this village. My next post will answer your other question. Super grateful to have you Following.
Nice! Don´t miss that experience! :) let me know if you need some more recommendations about what to do at your stops. I went all that way too ! Can´t wait for your next post!
Looks like an awesome journey. I have not hitch hiked for a year and I miss this kind of life. Maybe I can be out on the road again this summer. I follow you to see more of your adventures :)
Everyday's an adventure. When I have a good Wifi connection I make new posts. I just never know. I love sharing this stuff. It's such a magical life.

I've only just begun. If it's already this amazing I can't even imagine what's around the corner. I'm loving making the posts so I'm creating them every time I get an obedient wifi connection. Grateful to have you Following.
I'm sure you are keeping these two guys entertained and loving the adventure of everything being new. It seems you have a great flow, and the guys are not whooses (is that how you spell it? ha!) so you'll have a truly astounding adventure. I'll be checking in with your posts, knowing that you are in alignment with a magical journey. Blessings on the way @loveon.
I love all your support. I wonder how some comments are just now showing up that were posted over a week ago.
I too support you in all your endeavors.
