Post Nr. 4000!!! - Getting ready for my first New Years in Paris!! (Fotos + Videos)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

As you know already I am in Europe right now. After Vienna I went to Munich over Christmas and now I am finally in Paris!!!

The train took forever, because of some signal problems caused from the snow in Germany -.-... But now I am finally here to start my new project: Learning French living in Paris.

My friend Fie from Denmark came also to celebrate New Years with me and see a bit of the city. We know each other already from Mexico and went to Iceland, Belize and Denmark together. - It is always fun to hang out with her.

Of course we did some sightseeing already and I have to admit, that I like my new home very much eventhough its totally different from my old home (Playa del Carmen, Mexico).

Here people are more materialistic, dressing up, everything is more expensive and everybody is very polite whereas in Playa most of the time you walk barefoot, enjoy the beachlife and don´t really give a fuck where somebody comes from or what he looks like, when you get to know them... but also have a lot of rude drunk people going around. :D

Paris is the capital and most populous city in France, with an administrative-limits area of 105 square kilometres and a population of about 2.2 million.

Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of Europe's major centres of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts.

It is especially known for its museums and architectural landmarks: the Louvre was the most visited art museum in the world in 2016, with 7.4 million visitors and the Pompidou Centre Musée National d'Art Moderne has the largest collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe.

The historical district along the Seine River in the city centre is classified as a UNESCO Heritage Site.

The most known landmarks in the centre of the city center are also the ones we visited in this two days: the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris and The Gothic royal chapel of Sainte-Chapelle, both on the Île de la Cité; the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Élysées, and the Basilica of Sacré-Coeur on the hill of Montmartre.

When Fie arrived this evening we went eating tipical French snacks (Cambembert, Croquet de baby bell & Salat) and started our tour through the city.

At first we went to the Louvre to see it from outside.

The Louvre, or the Louvre Museum, is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France. Approximately 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 72,735 square metres In 2016, the Louvre was the world's most visited art museum, receiving 7.3 million visitors.

From here it got dark already so we went to Place de la Concorde to see the big wheel and Obelisc.

The Place de la Concorde is one of the major public squares in Paris, France. Measuring 8.64 hectares in area, it is the largest square in the French capital. It is located in the city's eighth arrondissement, at the eastern end of the Champs-Élysées. It was the site of many notable public executions of royalty during the French Revolution.

From here we walked along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées to get to the Arc de Triomphe. At this time of the year it looks especially beautiful, because the trees are decorated with a lot of Christmas lights.

Normally it is known for its theatres, cafés, and luxury shops. A lot of people say that it is the most beautiful street in the world and many cities tried to copy it.

At the end of Avenue des Champs-Élysées we got to the Arc de Triomphe to get a nice view of the city from its top. I didn´t know before, that it is possible to do that, so it was pretty cool.

To get to the Arc you also can arrive at the metro station: Charles de Gaulle etoile. To get to the middle of the big traffic circle you have to cross a tunnel.

From there you can buy a ticket (12EUR) and go up the 277 stairs. (I counted them).

After climbing the first 198 stairs you get to a little hall inside the Arc, with a little exhibition about Arcs in the world and the history of this one.

Getting up another 78 stairs you get to the top to enjoy the incredible view over the city!! From here you see directly along the Champs-Élysées to the Gran Arc and also Place de la Concorde. Going to the other side you have a great view of the Eifel Tower!

This was also our last stop: The Eifel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is a wrought iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower.

Constructed from 1887–89 as the entrance to the 1889 World's Fair, it was initially criticized by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognisable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world; 6.91 million people ascended it in 2015.

The tower is 324 metres tall, its base is square, measuring 125 metres on each side. It has three levels for visitors, with restaurants on the first and second levels. The top level's upper platform is 276 m above the ground – the highest observation deck accessible to the public in the European Union. Tickets can be purchased to ascend by stairs or lift (elevator) to the first and second levels. The climb from ground level to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the climb from the first level to the second. Although there is a staircase to the top level, it is usually accessible only by lift.

For us it´s already late and pretty crowded to go up there - because of new years! But maybe we can still do it tomorrow.

Now we are having dinner before we go out to see the big fireworks and say goodbye to 2017 welcoming 2018!!!

@lizanomadsoul! I wish you a wonderful start into the New Year 2018! Keep on posting about your journey! Your photography of Paris is amazing! I love the Tour Eiffel photos! Brings back good memories! I spent the New Year's Eve 1999/2000 in Paris and stood on a bridge over the Seine at high noon. Happy New Year! 🍾

Sounds great!! I guess at that time it was way better - less people and less security ... I am impressed how Europe has changed in that matter! - But we had a great party yesterday. Paris is a nice city. I will post more about my journey soon and also wish you all the best for this year!!

Beautiful photos! But fireworks do not exist in Paris. At least when I spent New Year's Eve there a few years ago, there was no fireworks. The Eiffel Tower was illumi- nated and people used to drink sparkling wine on the streets. But if it should be different this year, so I'm looking forward to the Paris fireworks;)

There will be one official one at the Eifel Tower :) I am looking forward to it! Nice! I am in good company and the weather is awesome tonight so it will be fine :) Have a good new year my friend!
