Sydney 30 December.

in #travel6 years ago

We woke and opened the curtains to watch the sun rise upon the Opera House, have breakfast, and put the final things into the bag before we disembarked into Sydney.

While the boss was finishing off I watched this ferry line up his berth and come to a stop, with practiced ease.

Of course, we arrived at the hotel before they were ready for us, so we checked the bags into their storage and became “street kids” for the morning.

Sunday morning on the 30th December, is not the most awake time of day for the Pitt street area of Sydney.

We wandered for a couple of blocks and found a shopping complex just starting to open up for the day, the boss was happy again.

We were crossing over the road by one of the elevated walkways when I heard some noise on the street below, always curious, I had a look down to see what was happening.

A group of 4 guys were setting up to do some street dancing, and the least impressed was the girlfriend in the chair.

They proceeded to give a very good display of their gymnastic abilities for about 30 minutes before passing the bucket and getting their rewards.

We found what were probably famous sculptures, but there was no plaque near them that I found to tell anything about them, if a Sydney-sider reads this, they may be able to comment.

To show the time of season, yet another Christmas tree.

The main street, George Street, had been closed at the Harbour end by road works, and the roadway by “presents” allowing the pedestrians to use the street as a mall.

The decorations were lit even at midday.

Having decided that the Hotel had had enough time to prepare our room we wandered back about 1 pm, changed into some lighter weight clothes and wandered down to Circular Quay, to watch the ferries shuttle to and fro.

There was a bloke, dressed up as a tree, with a bunch of flowers in each hand, selling his flowers to passers by.

Another side on shot of the Majestic Princess at the Overseas Terminal.

While we were admiring where we had been, the P & O Eden sailed out from Darling Harbour, and under the Harbour bridge.

We had sailed on the Eden from Singapore to Cairns in 2016, and thought that it was quite a reasonable sized boat, until we compared it with the Majestic princess.

Quite impressive, I must visit someday

For you, probably not crowded, for us county kids, lots of people.
The scenery is terrific though.
