Madakaripura Waterfall is even dubbed as the highest waterfall in Java and the second highest waterfall in Indonesia after the Sigura-gura Waterfall near Lake Toba, North Sumatra. Gajah Mada itself is the most famous patih in the history of the great kingdom of Nusantara, namely Majapahit (1293-1500 BC). Gajah Mada is mentioned as the main character who managed to unite the entire archipelago (Nuswantara) under the Majapahit kingdom. The glorious coverage of Majapahit territory covers the territories of Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Southern Thailand, the Philippines and East Timor; reinforced by the famous oath of the patih, the Palapa Oath.

It is said that the source of the extraordinary power of the patih comes from within the cave near Madakaripura Waterfall. There Gajah Mada often comes to meditate. Patih Gajah Mada even chose the cave as his final meditation place before he was believed by the ancient Javanese to reach moksa-disappear spiritually and physically from the face of the earth. Based on this belief, there are still many people who come to this waterfall to meditate or perform rituals, especially on the 1st night of Suro, Javanese New Year.

Being historically significant, skaral, and stunning natural conditions, Madakaripura is one of the destinations worth visiting when you come to East Java.
