Travel to Croatia # 7 ( 🏰 Split y ⛱️ Hvar )
Split:
Split is, with 200,000 inhabitants, the second largest city of Croatia. It rises around a Roman palace of the emperor Diocletian from the fourth century BC and practically all its tourist attraction is based on this palace (which is no small thing).

If you visit Split in summer, you must take into account the tourist overcrowding of the city by these days. On the other hand, you will not miss any souvenirs (it is full of shops) or tourist attraction, including the typical men dressed as Roman soldier, waiting for you to take a picture with them.

In any case, there is no doubt that Split is a very interesting city to visit (otherwise, it would not be full of tourists). Some of the most important points that are worth visiting in Split are:
The statue of Gregory of Nin
One of the most well-known sights in Split is the 8.5 meter tall statue in honor of the Bishop Gregory of Nin. Someone came up with the idea that rubbing the toe of the statue would bring you luck, and since then hundreds of tourists have handled this part of the statue, which has remained soft and shiny as a result of this belief.

The Cathedral of St. Domnius:
The octagonal cathedral of Split is one of the best preserved Roman buildings today. It was built as a mausoleum for Diocletian. The entrance includes admission to its crypt, which is worth visiting, not only because of its historical interest, but also because it is cool inside.

From Split ferries leave for several islands, including the longest island of the Adriatic, Hvar island.
Hvar:
Renowned for its lavender fields, the island of Hvar boasts excellent examples of Renaissance and Gothic architecture. The town of Hvar is an example of the harmony between an old town, nature and the sea.

Most of the visitors come to the island searching for party, given Hvar parties reputation all over Croatia. If this is your case, I recommend you to visit this website. But if you do not plan to visit Hvar for this reason, other interesting attractions of the island are:
Abandoned Villages in the south of the island:
The interior of Hvar hides some old abandoned villages and the lavender fields for which the island is so famous.

Coves in the south of the island:
It is worth exploring the area on a day trip and take the opportunity to bathe in one of the beautiful coves of the south, much less crowded than those in the north of the island. In addition, some of the coves are very easily accessible by car.

The Sućuraj Lighthouse:
If you decide to visit the south of the island, a good option is to return to the mainland from the port of Sućuraj. If you do so, the trip will be cheaper and you will also enjoy the beautiful view of the lighthouse Sućuraj.
