Travel to Croatia # 6 ( the captivating Trogir)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

The captivating town of Trogir is established between medieval walls on a small island, so close to the Dalmatian coast, that is connected to it by a bridge of about 20 meters. At the opposite end has another bridge that links it with a larger island, Čiovo. Trogir is one of those places that deserves its status as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

For some strange reason, Trogir is not on many of the top ten lists of places to visit in Croatia, often being proposed as a day trip from Split . However, if I had only one day to visit Croatia, I would not doubt my destiny: Trogir.

The old town of Trogir retains many perfectly preserved buildings that date back to the Middle Ages, turning a stroll through its marble streets lit by old-fashioned streetlights, into a wonderful experience. Some of the most important tourist attractions that are worth visiting in Trogir are:

First of all, Trogir beaches:

Every inch of the coast of the island of Trogir is a candidate to be a beautiful beach, but there are also well known beaches throughout Croatia, such as Okrug Gornji.

The gates of the city:

The main entrances to the walls of the medieval Trogir are still preserved, being a very interesting point of visit and in which you can take very beautiful photographs, both from inside the walls, as well as from the port.

The Clock Tower and the Loggia:

In the John Paul II square is one of the most famous tourist attractions of Trogir, the Clock Tower and, attached to it, the Loggia. This exterior gallery, made up of arches on columns, is a perfect place to rest in the shade and observe the square.

Saint Lawrence's Cathedral:

Saint Lawrence's Cathedral, began to be built in the twelfth century and continued for almost 500 years until around 1500. You can climb the tower, 47 meters high, to enjoy its beautiful views.

The Harbour:

Despite being a small port, it is one of the main attractions of Trogir. It is worth taking a walk on it and practicing a bit of "yacht watching".

Tip: It is highly recommended to spend the night in Trogir instead of visiting it as a day trip from Split. It is cheaper and is a bit less crowded. In any case, if you travel by your own car you must expect that there will be traffic jams to cross the bridge that connects Trogir with the mainland. One option is to make the journey on foot.

Thanks for reading the post, I hope you liked it and maybe it might be useful if you visit Croatia!
