Travel to Croatia # 8 (Dubrovnik, the King's Landing)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

In spite of the terrible siege and bombardment that Dubrovnik suffered in 1991, the city has recovered completely and few vestiges now remain of this painful episode of its story. In fact, at present, the city is best known for another war (in this case fictitious): the war for the Iron Throne.

if you only have 1 day to go around Dubrovnik my suggestions on what to do would be:

A walk through the walls

Possibly the main tourist attraction of Dubrovnik are its walls. It is worth walking around these spectacular walls, which many say are the best in the world.

A walk through the city walls

In addition to enjoying the spectacular views, some doors in the wall lead you to the rocks that surround the city. From these you can jump to the Adriatic Sea and have a refreshing swim. You don't have to be an Olympic trampoline jumper as there are areas that make the bathroom accessible for almost everyone.

The walled city

Although the walk through the walls is for many a must see in ** Dubrovnik **, a walk through the alleys of the old part of the city can be even more inspiring and suggestive.

Stradun

After passing through the outer door you reach an inner door dating from 1460, and you access the main street of Dubrovnik, Placa (or as it is commonly known, Stradun).

Tip: In the central summer months Drubrovnik can become a very hot city with temperatures above 30° C. Taking into account that the main plan is to walk along its streets, it's a good idea to take some tips to protect yourself from the heat: drink lots of water, cool down, to rest in cool or shady places, wear light clothes ....

I am already @pointtojoin, you take really good pictures!

I remember my day in Dubrovnik a few years back. I did go around the wall but did not jump into the sea.

A must the next time you are in Dubrovnik @erlik ;)
It's so refreshing!
