A Day at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Japan!
Would you like to visit the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo with us reading this post because I share a lot of photos that you may enjoy?
I will be showing you the whole trip to the zoo from the hotel where we rode the Hilton Hotel's bus to the Shinjuku Station, and then we took the train for a 30-minute ride to the Ueno Station.
All photos are mine and taken with my Samsung phone.
A Day at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Japan!
Before going to the zoo, let's try this Foreign Currency Exchange machine at the hotel. We exchanged 1,000 THB into 2,870 JPY.
Then we took the bus from the hotel to the Shinjuku Station, a 5-minute ride.
Trains are very clean, no graffitis, no noise and no beggars.
We used an app to navigate and it was quite easy once in the train. The difficulty is to know what train to get in because a lot of signs are only in Japanese and there are a lot of lines.
We arrived at the Ueno Station.
You must be careful not to hit your head!
A lot of people at the station hurrying in all directions.
Finally, we found a sign showing the direction to the zoo.
This is a map of the area.
We walked up the stairs to the Ueno Park, leaving the train station behind.
The Ueno Park.
Our short walk in the park was very enjoyable as the weather was refreshing.
There is a shrine there, but my daughter was more interested by the ice-cream stand.
One chocolate ice-cream, ¥400 ($3.66).
The Ueno Zoo.
This is some information with a map from their website: http://www.tokyo-zoo.net/english/ueno/index.html
This is the entrance of the Ueno Zoo in the park.
The entrance fee is ¥600 ($5.50) per adult and it is free for children under 12.
This is the map of the zoo and we visited the East part of it first.
The first animal is "Riri" the panda, which only showed us his back!
As you can see there were a lot of people to see him.
I found all the animal areas very nice and clean with no smell at all.
You can see the animals through large glass windows.
Asian elephants.
A bear.
A seal.
There are a few areas like this one where you can have lunch.
A nice bird.
A bin for each kind of garbage and hopefully there are images to make it clear.
Drinking water at the fountain.
A birds area.
Taking memorable photos.
Let's try this machine to get a drink.
Another sitting area.
A monkey area.
Small animals.
In order to access the other part of the zoo, you have to take the monorail if you do not want to walk.
This is the map.
We just finished to see the East part of the zoo and we took the monorail to visit the West part with the lake.
It was a 20-minute wait.
Buying tickets with the machine: ¥150 ($1.37) for adults and ¥80 ($0.73) for children.
More queuing!
Don't push!
Here it comes.
Seats are limited and the trip takes a very short time.
You see the penguin when you arrive.
Then, there is a lake.
A big fish in there!
This must be nice to have an apartment with view on the zoo.
You can go through the lake using a walking platform.
A sitting area.
Orange flamengos.
A giraffe.
Other animals indoors.
We left the zoo through another gate and headed to another lake for a bit of exercising…
The cost is ¥700 ($6.40) for 30 minutes.
After this session, we left for another area in Tokyo.
We walked 3.65 kilometers in the zoo, and after the water boat my phone was out of battery. We must have walked another 0.5 kilometers or more back to the train station.
I hope that you enjoyed reading this post.

Looked pretty reasonably priced, ticket prices into the zoo here is much more expensive and only kids under two get in free.
Yes, that was reasonable, even comparing to Thailand where foreigners pay more for entries in different places.
I was interested in looking at that one, seems like whenever I travel I always end up going to the local zoo. Seems zoos are attraction for everyone.
